Hoover Legacy series (Duros)

Needless to say this is literally a Hoover rebadged Maytag and the reason why I say literally is because underneath the hoover sticker that's on this machine it says Maytag underneath it. You can see where the logo starts underneath the sticker so they literally just slap the hoover sticker over the Maytag logo and winged it. To be honest this thing is one of my favorite two motor canister vacuums in my collection after a day of cleaning up the vacs from the house and putting them in the U-Haul storage and organizing them I decided that I'd only have two house vacuums one Hoover Elite II and this, a long with some spare vacs around the house that are also all Hoover lol. It sounds like a turbine jet winding up when you move the power control slider and it doesn't sound bad it literally sounds like a jet engine. But it's tolerable and is actually pretty fun to use and when it's on min it's super quiet. When I got it the power head was seized so I ordered a brand new one and I used the chassis from it and put the old cover on top I was stupid and I think I did away with the old cover instead of saving it for spares or selling it probably because I have little space. I could clean it out a lot more so im waiting on some bags and a new belt for the power head. Same with my Hoover Elite II. It will be cleaned out from head to toe even though it's mint and doesn't really need it I'm going to make it in near refurbished condition.

Dakota, that particular example you have looks like it may have been distributed shortly after TTI bought Hoover. Since Whirlpool retained ownership of the Maytag name, they probably had to do this to avoid legal trouble with Whirlpool.

These rebadged Sanyo canisters were quite good - especially considering they sold for about $200 CDN in Walmart for the Hoover Duros version. EXTREMELY powerful suction and airflow - so powerful, in fact, years ago I took out the single stage motor from a scrap Duros and transplanted it in my TriStar CXL to give it the Supercharge Treatment!

The only real flaws it had were the hose material was bad for coming out of the machine end and needing replacement prematurely, and the powerhead wasn't that aggressive and only suitable for low pile rugs and carpeting. Also, a LOT of people were too cheap to buy the Hoover SR bags for it and substitute the single layer Hoover S bags, not realizing the hole on the bag collar was slightly bigger and it always made a huge mess in the bag chamber! If only people would have saved the Hoover SR bag collar and put it on top of the Hoover S collar when putting it in the bag holder. There was also no floor brush included - people would complain in online reviews about this - and this was before people realized it was a 35 mm Miele size tool fitting and they could just buy a aftermarket Miele floor brush.

Dakota, since there is no HEPA Filter on the exhaust and no HEPA Cloth bags produced for the Duros, Legacy or Sanyo version, I would take the bag holder out, wrap some red Tuck Tape around the bag door tube, and modify it to use a Miele FJM/GN canister bag. That way, since you're using this as a daily driver, you get improved filtration, and longer sustained airflow while cleaning, since the Miele AirClean bags can be filled till 3/4 full until you see any noticeable drop in suction or airflow.
