Hoover Lark

I don't get much opportunity to collect, mainly because of the size of my shoebox townhouse. But I could not resist this, and it's not like it takes much space. Always wanted to see one of these, let alone own one. Thanks to VintageCanister for pointing it out to me.

the left side / rear view. It works OK, but needs a new belt. The one there is about in shreds. Also needs a change of the bag. The disposable bag basically had 10 lbs of "stuff" in a 5 lb sack...

Congratulations, Chris -

They were kinda quirky vacuums, but there's something "fetching" about them. I used to have one, and changing the Type C bag about drove me nuts. I needed 6 hands to get the outer bag lowered, the paper bag carefully removed, and the whole thing replaced and put back together again. I liked the cleaning job that the Lark does, though. It was a good little vacuum. I just wished they had designed a better bag system.

LOl, really laughing as I type this, John. That must explain why the sweet old lady, possibly NEVER changed the bag in this Lark that I just received. I am going to try to find hazard waste gloves and attempt to change it tomorrow.

Haven't psyched myself up to dive in just yet, John, but that must explain the yellow do not cross tape that has now been placed around my Lark.

Congratulations on the Lark 12! I have one too, and agree, it's a great little cleaner. Wish I could find attachments for it.

I've had a couple of 115s over the years but never a Lark.

The one I =really= want (badly!) is the U.K. Junior Model 370 from 1935.

Lark, a cute and neat little vacuum, reminds me of the Dirt Devil Broomy vacs. Has anyone got a video of it in action? I wonder what it sounds like. The larger Hoovers have that certain growl to them (Convertibles and Seniors/Rangers), so what about this one?

There are videos of the Larks. Most I have seen are of the 1956 model, just after this one. I know Jack has videos of that one. It does have a Convertible (or Senior) sound to it when working properly, even if motor is slightly different pitch. Mine is still undergoing basic maintenance and I want it to be seen in it's full glory, but I WILL post a video of it when it is finished.

This is Jack's (dysonanimal) model 14 which is similar, although it may be slightly wider that the Lark shown above - if I recall correctly the Lark 12 used the same brush roll as the Junior 115/119 where this one used a Senior brush roll.

Jack's is quite noisy, the Lark 12 may well be quieter.

I have to say that mine, posted above, sounds similar to Jack's. But I don't have a fresh belt yet and I don't want to run it for more than a sec w/ that one. I am really falling for this Lark.
