I recently moved house, and have now got all my Hoover Junior 1334/1346 type machines together for the first time! Couldn't resist posting the picture below...

From left:

1975 1354A, late version standard model with plastic bottom cord hook. Knackered bag zip, but fairly good condition overall.

1976 U1016, impossibly rare top-fill bag machine, this is a German market 220 volt version. Needs bearings done.

1976 U1034 Co-op (UK shop chain) Exclusive model, pretty good but 'Exclusive' silver letter on lamp visor almost totally faded.

Funnily enough, when the power was turned on, all three running together didn't sound much louder than one machine!

Simon, that is a beautiful collection!! My favoirte would be the one with the dark navy trim and bag!! Thanks for sharing. Terry
 
Beautiful Juniors! I remember seeing pictures of the top-fill version somewhere (I think Seamus might have posted them on AW.org) and thought it was very neat. Did they ever produce any 110V Dirtsearcher machines for the US, or was this strictly a UK version?

Sis U1016 is the Dirtsearcher version of the U1012 I posted the pic of the top fill setup on Aw. As he says for some reason these are extreamly rare(strange as there was never a huge difference in price for the Dirtsearcher versions). The U1016 replaced the 1354A on the far left. The dark blue U1034, although dating from the same period as the U1016 is a bottom filling machine.

The Dirtsearcher Juniors appeared in the UK and Europe(as Si says his U1016 is a German version). They never made it to the US tho. Im currently on the look out for a 1354/A for a US collector who has offered a rather tempting swop :)

110v Dirtsearchers...

They were sold in Canada though - at least the 1354A was. Someone posted a Canadian mail order catalogue on aw.org a while back, and there was one in there, where it was called the 'Convertible Junior'. Unlike the 1348, it looked identical to the British machine.

Seamus - I've noticed that U1012/6 handbooks refer to the U1016 as the 'Junior Deluxe', so I presume that it was replaced by the U2068 some time in 1977. Just my theory!

And the 'Standard' models...the 425's my new one, and is still in need of serious cosmetic surgery! Runs like new, though, amazingly!

U1016/Replaced by U2068??

Hey Si

That theory makes perfect sense and would explain to a great extent why the 1016 is so rare!.

Its also very interesting about the Canadian 1354As- wonder if any have strayed over the border as it were!

110v Dirtsearchers again...

With apologies to petek who posted this picture on aw.org. From a Canadian 1973/4 Consumers Distributing catalogue. It looks so out of place withe the other cleaners!

Congrats on the move, looking forward to seeing more pics, those Junior Dirtsearchers look great , love the brown coloured model, the 1354a light blue was offered on a special at the Electricity Board (MANWEB) when it was introduced, at £27 pounds with free tools, my Nan and her three daughters all bought them at the same time....

Nowthen, which of these colours is "Hoover Dolphin Blue" the light or the dark??

Jack, we can see you have been busy, please tell me you have an electric polisher to buff all those vacs, What type of cable do you use on the re-wires?? have you managed to find rubber like replacement??

The blues...

The dark blue is Dolphin Blue, or at least it is on the 1346A - the pale one is Mandarin Blue according to a DVD of a John Noble spring/Summer 1974 catalogue I got recently.

Hi there Mike,

Nope, no electric buffer - although I'd very much like one when I find the money - just a tin of metal polish, a duster and elbow grease! As for the flexes, in most cases, the machines still have their originals fitted, and these are in good enough condition to be used. For the re-wires, when the original cord is absent or dangerously perished, I just use normal 2-core black flex - I haven't yet found earthed flex in black, although this would be more suitable, both for safety and appearance, since the original cords are slightly thicker than modern 2-core flex. Needless to say, the cleaners are always checked from plug to motor, including internal wiring, before being run un-earthed.
 
Simon your Hoovers are beautiful! I wish we had Juniors like that here....I'm so envious.

Vintagehoover your vacuums are also amazing! They all look so pretty!

If you look....

In the bottom right of the catalogue page it has a replacement bag list that says the Junior Convertible had a different paper bag to the normal Convertible! was this ever the case in the US????. Over here the Junior and Senior models have always used the same bags.

I'm the happy owner of a 1354 Dirtsearcher too, sent to me by UK Steve. It matches my 6525C Senior from Kevin Cox!
