Hello everyone I'm new here, my name is Dana. I just aquired a Hoover Guardian U4125. It's in rough shape headlight is taped on,etc. I haven't even wiped it off yet. I'm going to post a photo of it as is. Would love any information you may have . Thanks

Firt, WELCOME!

That is the Hoover Guardsman.... a commercial vacuum cleaner. It is an earlier model, noticeable by the indented badge (logo_ on the metal base. It also had a cloth shakeout bag, easily adapted into a paper throwaway bag. (Type A). It is a real workhorse. You could also use Convertible cleaning tools (front conversion). The light lens can be fixed. Sometime, in early production of that style, the lens would shrink.

Congrats on a great find. Get it serviced, give it a spa treatment, and it could last for years and years.

Thank you so much John. I started to clean it up last night and its not nearly as bad as i thought. I will post some more photos this afternoon. Im actually hoping to sell it . I pick up these older hoovers when i come across them because i love the look. I think theyre really fun to clean up. Here is a link to a hoover convertable i did last summer. Im bad about remembering to take before pictures. But it was pretty bad. Found it next to a trash can.

There were 3 variations....

of the chrome and red Hoover Guardsman. The first that was made between 1975 and 1978, had the shake out bag, and otherwise the body and the rest is the same as your. Then in 1979 is was re issued, which is what you have, with a vinyl bag, and the type A paper bag. The 3rd made in about 1982 had no Hoover badge on the front edge of the base, it also had a plastic switch cover over the switch on the handle bail,also a plastic height adjustment lever, and lastly the type a bag fill tube, was changed from the old slide on, to the new push on connector. I am going to include sales sheets, and some pictures too for you.=)

So kind of you to provide all that info. So, she's 39 years old. These machines were definitely well made. Now that I have spent the better part of the day cleaning her, she doesn't look a day over 25.
Do you have any suggestions on how to get the yellow off the headlight lens without removing the black lettering?
And, I'm having a hard time getting the lens to stay in. It seems a little too small for the opening.

HMMM-I guess I will need to get out my Hoover Guardsman with its houndstooth bag-uses "A" paper inserts.This one was left by a customer at the former Vacuum Cleaner Hospital in Greenville.The vacuum is in fine shape and needed only a minor repair.The customer did not come back for it-at that shop if the machine was left over 30 days-was sold to me for the price of its repair.the present vacuum shop does the same now.And I get first picks from their trade in piles.Just got a Simplicity Synergy that is in fine shape-left its "battle scars" though.It smeeled like dog when firt started-then replaced ALL of its filters-vacuumed out the bag compartment and all is well-has the dirt se nsors on it.Fun to use like my Radiance.But back to Hoover!!!Fine vacuum!!!and they last and can go thru anything and still be fixed up for more!

I used 2 of the shakeout bag type

at the seminary. I got a new cleaner for the church. By this time, they delivered the latter model.
It took 2 hours to completely vacuum St. John's.
Stellar machines, indeed.
