I finally found a Hoover Grease gun! I got it from a vac shop that closed down recently in Wicsonsin. Bill Edstrom and I visited the shop just prior to closing to go through the inventory to see if he had anything we might want. Bill cleaned him out of Kirby stuff, of course. I happened to think to ask if he had a Hoover Grease Gun. The shop owner thought he did but wasn't sure where it was at. So The owner kept in contact with Bill and eventually told Bill he had located the grease gun and then Bill obtained it. Since Bill is all Kirby, what in the heck does need a Hoover tool for? So that's when he called me and asked if still wanted it. So a huge Thanks go out to Bill Edstrom for making this happen. I now want to try and use it but I am wondering what type of grease to use. The gun the Hoover tip came on is old and I would like to use a more modern gun like I have seen others using. I found a grease gun at an estate sale and now am wondering how to make it work. The gun takes the 3 ounce grease cartridges which I like the idea of. The grease that is in the gun now is all purpose grease. I tried to find some wheel bearing grease in a 3 ounce tube but was unsuccessful yesterday. Will the general purpose grease be good enough or do I need to try to find real wheel bearing grease?

Grease Gun

A rare find, Chad! I can't wait to give my Convertibles a proper greasing! Although, I’ve been using another method that I learned from another collector that has worked well for me! Thanks to Bill for finding it!

chad far as the grease goes. get this stuff http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/grease/synthetic-multi-purpose-grease-nlgi-2/?code=GLCCR-EA

its $7.95 for a 14oz caulking tube of it and will least you YEARS just using it on vacuums. its much better than white lithium grease. better fritction properties and is specially forumulated for hish temps in bearings and motors.

ive been using it in my rollerbearings for convertibles and other machines for 3 years and it works MUCH better than store bought greases. you can order it on thier website.

Here is a picture of the new grease gun I recently acquired to use with the Hoover grease tip. This is the one that takes 3 ounce cartridges. I was hoping someone knew of a place to obtain some good grease to use in a gun like this.

3oz cartidges arent industry standard. best thing is to fill it with grease from the 14oz tube. 14oz is the smallest youll find at any hardware or automotive store/ the amsoil grease is worth the investment
