Here's my new Hoover Freemotion bagged cleaner that I got for the bargain price of £27 from DirectVacuums on Ebay.

It's a graded machine, but it was in brand new condition in the orginal box. The Allergen remover does not come with the cleaner as standard, I got it brand new on Ebay for 99p!!!

On/Off and variable power control that can be foot operated. This cleaner is pretty quiet for a Hoover, far quieter than the bagless version.

The exhaust outlet is covered when the cleaner is switched off. A small magnet keeps it securely closed.

Flap opens when cleaner switched on. Pretty nifty I think.

Front & Side Clean nozzle supplied as standard. This nozzle is pretty useless on carpets, but acceptable on hard floors. The optional full size Turbo head does a fantastic job on carpets, better than the Dyson Turbine head on my DC23 Animal.

Nice lookin' machine! Is Hoover UK still building quality machines or is like our Hoover in the US?

To sum up, I like this Hoover Freemotion. It's quiet, powerful and very stylish. The smart metallic finish is sprayed on and very easily scratched. Even though I have been super careful with it, I noticed a scratch on the underside of the cleaner after using it. I will soon be packing it away to preserve it's looks.

The 3 in 1 tool is useless, so I won't recommend this machine for above floor cleaning. An optional small turbo head is available for stairs and upholstery which does a great job. The telezoom tube control is a neat touch, but you have to put your foot on the floor head while adjusting the height of the tube.

This cleaner is quite hard to get hold of in the UK, so it could be a future collectible.

Bagless Freemotion

This is the last picture, honest! The bagless version with a single speed motor. A remote controlled version is available.
I don't like this cleaner as much as the bagged versions as it has less suction power and makes a strange noise that frightened my Mum's dogs.

Hoover U.K. went the way of Hoover U.S. some time ago and the cleaners are made in China now.

The rot set in when Candy purchased the Hoover brand. The last decent cleaner in terms of build quality in my opinion was the Hoover Turbopower 2/3/1000 cleaners. The China made cleaners are not well built in general, though the Freemotion seems quite well made, but not a patch on Miele or Sebo.

Hoover branded cleaners sold in the U.K. have been manufacturered in the U.K., France, U.S.A, Portugal, Switzerland, Taiwan and even Hong Kong. The best came from the U.K. but the French made models like the Sensotronic range were pretty good.

I'm sure all the U.K. based collectors feel sad that Hoover will never re-live their glory days in the 70's when they employed thousands of people and were the number one brand in floorcare. I'm sure all of you in the States feel the same about your Hoover company, but I suppose any Hoover brand is better than none.

All most all the major vacuum brands have gone down hill. I started to notice the quality go down after my grandma got a new vacuum one day. My grandma had a Eureka 1931 AT (IF ANYONE has one and it selling it, contact me!) that I used to be really scarred of. I slowly started to like it. My favorite thing about it was the bag.(hence my username)BUT, one day, my grandma took it to a vacuum shop to have to be tuned up, and it came back louder! Once again I disliked it. So, she donated it to the Goodwill(which I am still mad about to this day) and my parents got her a Hoover TurboPower CaddyVac. (Which was December 1999)

But, this where I saw the quality go down. On my 5th birthday, I asked for a Eureka vacuum so I could see the vacuum again. I was too young then to know that not all Eurekas where the same and Eureka stopped making that model years ago. I did get a Eureka though, a Eureka THE BOSS. I was disappointed that the bag was not the back, and it was black, not white and blue. I still have the Eureka, but the motor is dieing! Sad.

Sorry if you thought this was the longest thing ever! I like to tell stories about vacuums. But, if anyone has a Eureka 1931 AT and is willing to sell it, I WILL TAKE IT!

Thanks so much for the pictures. That is a good looking machine. I like the color and the way the hose comes straight out the front. Very smart looking rug tool too.
