Hi guys,
We have just got these in as NOS - $599, reduced for staff to $250.00

I am seriously considering getting one, even though another staff member said they werent very reliable - but I know how people (customers) treat wet/dry appliances.

Love to hear opinions

not $599.00 good. $250.00 is more like it.
Still, the old "Floor-A-Matic, the forerunner to them all, WAS HOOVER'S "best kept secret" or "weapon", if you will.

is the one previous to your model.

But all the same I love mine!!!!!!!!

Not used a mop or floor cloth since, bliss to use and does a great job.

Hoover, make things better.


ALthough my only gripe is that one does need to quickly sweep or vacuum hard floors. Does not cope with large debris but not so much a problem as any upright cleaner with the carpet height set to maximum removes what this cant cope with so it saves me having to get a cylinder out.

Residual dust and small particles remain on the floor and get wetted with the wash water and removed when drying.

I love mine as well. It even makes ceramic tile sparkle. Easy to use. Floor is dry quickly and when you see how black the water is when you empty it, you know what a good job you have done without slopping dirty water back on the floor.

My only caveat is that I use one of my regular vacuums to sweep the floor instead of this on vacuum mode, before I start because this doesn't filter the dry dust very well and I can sense the dust in the air in my contact lenses. This is never a problem though in wet mode.

They are great machines!

I have had one of the original FloorMates for 8 or so years now. It's a great cleaner! They do work quite well. Not as well as the Floor-A-Matic.. but pretty well nonetheless. I agree though, I do use a different vacuum to get the "dry dirt" off of the floor and keep the FloorMate strictly for cleaning the floor. One does always need to take it apart, rinse everything out (after each use), and let it all air dry -- or you will have problems. Moisture allowed to sit in anything that involves an electric motor = bad news.

I got a floormate like the one pictured above for free, but the motor sounds and smells terrible(read above-moisture allowed to sit in anything that involves an electric motor equals bad news), and the cleaning liquid wont dispense onto the floor. I did have it working properly at one point and it did a fabulous job.

There was one comment that I meant to make. If anyone has the older model such as what Turbomaster posted, take care of it and hang on to it. I got that one when it was first introduced on the infomercial and had it several years. The only reason I don't now is that I dropped it down the stairs leaving it "totaled".

The newer style is every bit as good, but there is one design difference. On the older model, the switch to toggle between scrub and extract mode is right on the handle. Very convenient to do with your thumb. On the newer models, it is a dial that you turn on the base of the unit meaning that if you're tall, you have to bend down to do it. Not the end of the world, and nothing that you'd even notice if you weren't used to the older model.

One other comment, my newer model has the hose and cleaning tools that you insert into the machine (reminiscent of a Convertible) and they actually do work, even if not perfect. But decent at cleaning behind the toilet and in other tight spaces.

I picked mine up for $10 at a flea market, it does a great job on the Congoleum in the kitchens and baths, also very nice for the hard wood floors.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but when I clean the Congoleum I use vinegar and water in it and not the floor solution. I do however use the Old English for hardwood floors.

Overall I do like the machine, but as Chris mentioned the switch is in an odd place, esp being tall

I like mine, but wish it was a little quieter, and the spin-scub brushes were stiffer. Wish Hoover would invest in development for a better separation system for this, too...
