I have listed something pretty special on eBay -- it's a floor polisher attachment for the Model 700 (and late-model 543) Hoover that came from the Hoover Models Vault.

The auction listing (see link below) includes lots of photos (also posted below), and a short video.

Thanks for looking, and, especially, thanks for bidding! :)

Thanks, John. The polisher actually does work "somewhat" but I'd class it as more of a gadget than anything else.

It's very difficult to attach it to the Hoover; the bristles are too soft to effectively heat up the wax and burnish the floor; the floor swath is narrow; and the machine is awkward and hard to navigate, especially in small spaces.

But in the 1920s when electric floor polishers were rare and very expensive, so I guess it did have its place.

The electric floor polisher was invented somewhat later than the vacuum cleaner, somewhere around the turn of the century and initially were limited to large, heavy machines for commercial use. The first residential models didn't start showing up in the U.S. until the 1920s and were widely sold by the Johnson's Wax Company.

Like the look on the womans face in the first picture-looks like she is scared to start that thing! The woman in the second picture is DELIGHTED with her floor machine!Normally single disc floor machines were run by men-They would be used to start torque when the machine is first turned on.

Not meaning to hack the thread

But John that is what happens to Charmane after many years of trouble. She finally was weaned off of the glamourene and she found a job as a house maid! As I always say, out with the glamourene and on to the johnsons wax :-)
