Hoover Elite 700 PICTURES!!!

Hello All!

A bit ago I posted a question about the Hoover Elite 700. I was surprized that the machine seemed so top shelf compared to other elites which I felt were cheap.

You all asked for some pictures, and tonight as an anniversary present we got a camera so here they are!!!

I got this and a few other machines from a time capsule estate sale. These people did not throw anything away, and it seemed that they had a thing for vacuums. I bought all of them.

I have to say that I really like this machine, and find it to be quiet and clean well too! This chocolate color screams class and to find it in this condition is pretty wild!

The machine must of had a motor change out at some point, as the unit does not have the early "needle" bearing that the first elites had. This Elite was produced in 1989 per the serial tag. I assume it to be one of the first.

Are you able to take a picture of the data plate?

Offhand, I'm not sure about the use of a sticker on the hood vs. the heat stamp on the hood. I believe that Elites were introduced in the first half of 1988, so yours is at least 6-months/1 year into production. I believe by that point, they had gone to dual ball bearing motors.

That is a great machine. I do love the Elites; they're good machines -- lightweight and very easy to use. Especially the early ones without the attachments on board to weigh everything down. I have a few early ones displayed.. and one early one that I have in pieces which needs to be cleaned up and detailed.

The early machines that have the needle bearings also have a cutout on the bottom of the cleaner (see picture). I have been told that when they went to the double ball bearing motors, they also changed the base, and filled in the cutout.

My early one (the black 80th Anniv. Edition) is date stamped 5/88, and has needle bearings and the cutout. This is one of the earliest Elites I've seen. The one that needs restoration is also from around that same time -- with needle bearings and the cutout. It's mauve in color... I don't recall what the date on the sticker is offhand.

The blue one that I have is from 9/89, and has ball bearings and the cutout filled in. By that time, they were all ball bearing motors.

And I believe this is probably the dealer spec-sheet for your cleaner... I can't tell if the decal on the hood is a sticker or a heat stamp.

Here is the data plate.

This machine has shipped with ball bearings apparently as the bottom portion has been filled in. I've not done anything with the unit yet (after I restore them I never use them again) as I wanted to enjoy it pre-restoration.

I have seen a couple of variations of this unit as I researched, some have a gold badge on the bag offering the "deluxe top fill bag system," some just say HOOVER.

The machine I have is a decal rather than a heat pressed type of silkscreen. I think this must of been the only one with a decal. Doing some internet research, I find that the machine cost $179. That is expensive for an elite.

I guess that they just used up the old manuals in typical waste nothing Hoover fashion, hence why the book speaks of a needle bearing.

Also what was it with the odd Amp ratings of the time? 6.7 amps? And it also seems that the 6.7 amp motor is quieter that the other Elite machines I have encountered.

It is a dark chocolate brown. The machine has a hershey bar quality to it. It really seems to be the Elite with the most class.

The limited edition 80th is sublime. I was so stupid as a kid I had one, but sold it for $30......

Thanks!  Yeah, the 80th is really a beautiful cleaner.  Robert gave it to me for my birthday a few years ago... he got it off of eBay -- it used to reside in Fred Nelson's collection.  It's only been run a few times.  It's otherwise new.


 


The actual color name listed on the back of that spec sheet I posted of your Elite 700 is "Ebony Brown".  Such a classy-sounding color name!

I miss that vacuum, I was stupid too, I picked it out for my grandmother in 1994 it was the only one on the shelf it was on clearence for 64.99. I thought shed like it because it was lightweight but it pulled itself quickly across the flat commercial carpet in her apartment. I figured once the belt stretched a bit it wouldnt be so bad, but it was to strong for her lol. So she gave it to me and I stupidly gave it to my cousin.
