Over the weekend, I decided to check out the local flea market. With a sharp increase in traffic, you either have to go super early or late in the day to find a parking space. It's getting harder and harder to find any older vacs there, most of them started out as $50. bagless throwaways. Anyway, one of the vendors had what I thought was an ordinary Hoover Commercial upright, until I looked at the hood and in gold letters it said Hoover Dual-Voltage. It has a switch on the underside to do just that. It can switch from 120 to 240 volts. The serial number is 089500004123, indicating production date as 08/95. Are these cleaners rare? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Probably made for members of the American Armed Forces whose families may often relocate to places in both Europe and the USA. Saves money for them if they only need to buy one set of electrical appliances that can move around with them.

So you could use it in the UK too

Indeed you could. Forgot to mention that it has a U.S. plug, and takes Type A bags. Being made for the Armed Forces sounds like a very plausible explanation, if any Hoover experts out there know for sure (or how long they were made) I'm all ears....
