our resident HOOVER expert.....

Is John Long, he should be able to tell you colors, years, and if your HOOVER is capable of supporting the Turbonic-Gardener™  attachment. As much as I love my HOOVERS, all I can be certain on is the VERY first

Dial-A-Matic cleaner, the world's first clean-air upright, was released in 1963 in the color of pumpkin and taupe!

I believe you left out the model 1149 as well. Also, does anyone know which were the last DAM models available in the power drive and non-power drive versions? Was there an overlap when the Concept 1 debuted? A vac shop owner told me awhile back Dial-A-Matics could still be purchased new in 1980.

does anyone know.....

what dam that is on the left, in the first photo? I don't believe it is a US DAM, can anyone help?

DAM on the Left

Yeah I remember this post and I know the right is a 1149, but the one on the left is a mystery and I have not seen another. It looks like it might go with the U4003 Convertible, but I don't know. Info needed!!!

Praise for the U5015. When was it manufactured?

I am really curious when my U5015 was manufactured. I acquired it used in 1988, and even then it seemed like almost an antique.

However, to this day it cleans like nobody's business. 3 years ago I bought the Hoover that was rated #1 in Consumer Reports, and it is just terrible at sucking dirt out of my carpet, compared to the ancient U5015. I will never part with my U5015!

The U5015 was either the last (or one of the very last) non-power drive models offered. It was shown in the 1978 lineup page. I have heard tell of them being sold new as late as 1980. I personally would take a U5015 Dial-A-Matic over the Concept One that immediately followed in a second. Tool conversion was sooo much easier.

I'm a huge fan of Dial-A-Matics, I just love them so much! They weren't perfect but I would still buy one:) I actually saw an orange one at a thrift store store years ago, I don't remember why I didn't get it but I should've anyways.

Missing from the list are the models 1136 with a royal blue front bag cover sporting two white flowers in the lower left corner and the u6049 (no online info. presently).

Dial A Matic 1157

I have my Mother's 1157. I need to get a belt, I see that they are easy to find. It is Yellow. Is that the only color that the 1157 came in? I also would like to find a user and service manual for it. Also what year were they manufactured? A lot of questions I know. Thank you.

Hi Paul,

The Dial-A-Matic model 1157 was marketed from circa 1971 to 1974 in Ceylon Yellow and Taupe-Light, Medium, and Deep. The identical model 1159 was sold in Canada. Both were two of only a few models equipped with a headlight. The Dial-A-Matic, manufactured from 1963 to 1978, came in a variety of colors and model numbers.

Starting around 1966, Hoover USA's user manuals were typically printed for more than one model instead of being model specific as before; although there may have been exceptions. Anyway, from 1969 on there were basically two types: non-power drive & power drive. Here is a link to a 1971 power drive one I found online:

Also, here's a 1973 newspaper ad I located for the model 1157:

Hoover 1157 Update

Good Morning, I just spent 30 minutes typing up an update but got a message that I had to wait to post, then some kind of spam popped up stating that my computer was infected. I had to reboot. I am not sure what could be on this web site that would generate such a message. I run Malwarebytes on my computer. Anyway I will not retype everything. The main thing was when I took apart the agitator, the non belt side felt washer was non existent. The part number was H13010. Unfortunately Hoover has a model with the same number so I not able to search for the part. Was the part number changed, or is there one available somewhere? Thank you.
