That is true, but I also feel by Hoover reverting back to a "dirty-air" system was a classic case of three steps forward two steps back. There's no denying the DAM's achille's heel (cleaner body cracking where the upper handle enters), but I would have loved to have seen what might have been if Hoover didn't sell the "clean-air" patents to Panasonic. The DAM was definitely superior for it's ease of tool conversion, and the metal base was more heavy duty than the plastic base on the Concept. I know Concept lovers agree it is superior in terms of deep cleaning ability, and it too had a long production run. Either way, both machines are becoming increasigly difficult to find parts for. What I don't understand is why production continued in the U.K. up until around 1990 and here in the states it ceased as soon as the Concept was introduced? That burgundy DAM or as it was called on the other side of the pond "Convertible" was a stunningly beautiful cleaner.
