Hoover Convertible.

I found this a week ago and needless to say it was in rather sad shape. The bag had exploded because it had not been changed in so long. I completley dissasembled the machine and cleaned it from top to bottom. This was also the same model I used at my grandparents after they got rid of there avacoda dial a matic. I just need attachments for it to be complete. It means a lot to me to use it again sense they are both gone now. I can remember my grandfather telling me not to use the surge to much on the carpet cause he was scared I would melt the carpet. The last time I saw theres it was in the grarage beaten up. I still regret leaving her behind.

I love this machine it feels strong and sturdy. its fun to use to I really feel like it cleans well. it makes me wish I had mor carpet lol.

I got a convertible off Ebay last week. I know what you are saying about it being strong and sturdy and cleaning well.I don't consider myself a dirty person, I vacuum every other day. I have been using the convertible for almost a week now and I am really shocked at the amount of dirt it has pulled out of the carpets. There must be a good cup and a half in the bag.

I use a windtunnel and several other pretty top of the line machines to include kirby but this convertible just got the dirt up. I was surprised when I started using the kirby a few months agao at what it was picking up.

That is a beautiful Convertible the people across the street from our old house had the same one and I remember using it a few times. i do believe I remember seeing the display for these at K-Mart.

IIRC,

Jeff Parker told me that this was the very last of the Convertible series available up until 1992 or so. The 800 Series machine... There were a few other s still available too, but that this was the very last series...

It looks great BTW. Even in that much cheapened form...(plastic base, no beater bars in some models and plastic fans) the Convertible was still one of the best cleaning machines available for wall to wall carpet out there.....still is to many ..myself included!!!

The IBAISAIC action of these machines is best at getting the buried dirt out of carpets.

Hoover knew what they were talkin bout when they said you have to vibrate the carpet to get the dirt out!

Yes, it's awesome to see the literature. IIRC, there was also a convertible, called the Convertible RS that too was one of the last. I only wish they retained the perforated vinyl bag right up until the end. So this machine would have been sold alongside the Elite, and possibly even some of the first Elite II's. To me, there would be no contest, I'd take the convertible hands down. Actually, it might have been cool if Hoover made an Elite with the vinyl bag too (just like the early Eureka Ultra)

I remember there still being Convertibles like this at the K-Mart in the early part of 1994. That is when we replaced our Elite 200 with a Runabout from K-Mart, I tried to get my mother to buy the Convertible but she didn't because she wanted the on board dusting tools.

I found one of these in a thrift store a couple weeks ago. Mine's kind of beat up and I was going to make a doner out of it. Now I'm not sure what to do if it's the last "convertible". Mine came with a CWP brushroll and a 6.5 amp motor and I've been itching to soup up an older metal base convertible.
What do you guys think restore or part out?
