Hoover Convertible with no model # stamp

Hi Cole,

You are absolutely right. I did not even notice that until you pointed that out. I can say the box was sealed since new and that the converter red/pink lettering left a small stain on the top of the brush from years of storage. It must have been a smaller version. I had the larger "what I call a floor brush" like you, and a red rubber toothed furniture brush and round dusting brush, so this one is new to me. I had a tool bag with the larger floor brush. Interesting! Good eye!

Upholstery brush.......

.......is what this brush is called on standard set pictures I see in manuals, yet it was in this sealed NIB set. Curious?

This is the second one of these I have had.

Never noticed both names of upholstery nozzle and upholstery brush before. Neat. Well, at least my no model # Convertible is consistent. :)

Hoover logo.

Too bad Hoover was so inconsistent with stamping the Hoover logo in the blank circle on so many of these tools. The molding quality leaves a lot to be desired ( as is very evident on the above "upholstery" aka floor :) brush ) as quality and the Hoover logo is such a great trademark when utilized.

Tools...

Hoover wasn't inconsistent about stamping their logo in the tools.  They just completely stopped stamping their logo in 1963, when they started private labeling their cleaners for JCPenney.  They used the same tools and parts (handle grips, cords, etc)...  they couldn't say "Hoover" if JCP was selling them.  :-)

I love Hoover and always will.......

.......and I still wish Hoover had been consistent with quality and labeling. I have had several tools that have been from front converter sealed sets with a Hoover logo on the crevice tool and not on the floor brush. That is where brand loyalty and quality leaves.

Fred,

I have to admit that I think the tools that had the logo were from a loose set. I know you know your history. I just wish my four piece box snack had the Hoover logo on it, the correct tool names on the box and a smooth molded edge where the brush fits into the nozzle, because I like them and are proud that they are Hoover. :)

Just remembered when I was a little tyke.......

.......I wrote a letter to Hoover telling them how much I loved the Hoover vacuums, and they mailed me a frisbee in white with the Hoover logo on it. Just remembered that. Watercolor memories. :)

Just received the Y bags.

Bought from Hoover to get a sealed pack after receiving two loose bags from an Ebay (caution) store.

A question for Hoover experts:

Where is Hoover information on the U4047 ? I have read that this model had a high performance motor, but as I am going through the motor and replacing the top bearing and looking up how to clean and lubricate the lower bearing, all the motor parts and part numbers are the same as older Convertibles.

Bottom bearing cleaning and oiling experiences.

I have read older threads about servicing the bottom bearing, and was wondering if anybody has had personal experience with cleaning and greasing the bottom bearing and what products you have used? I really do not care to use gasoline as I have heard from talking to friends, and want to make sure I am getting all the grit out and am using a good and proper grease for the bearing. Any input will be great and add to the thread for others. :)

Handle grip.

Ordered what I thought was a white handle grip when I was ordering motor parts, because I thought it would cover the only rub spot on the handle and match the switch and lettering on the bag. When I opened it, could not believe it was an exact match to this vacuums creme color. :)

Finally got time to work on the motor.

Cleaned everything. New top bearing, brushes, screw kit for bearing, and a three hole bearing lower motor housing to change to a sealed bearing. ( Waiting on a new fan spacer and two washers for the conversion). Waxed the hood and furniture guard several times to remove surface imperfections, condition and shine and put bag unit together with the top fill assembly and Y carbon HEPA bag.
