The Vita-Vac is a rebadged Air-Way, made for Vita-Mix, best known for their blenders. They don't really make bags for it anymore, but you can remove the top of the bag in the machine right now, cut a Riccar type F bag in half, stick it inside the Vita-Vac, flatten the bag around the rim of the Vita-Vac's bag chamber, and secure it in place using the top of the old Vita-Vac bag. I believe the black collar on the black hose is supposed to cover a suction relief valve.
I have a newer Air-Way branded version of this machine, and it's probably my favorite canister.

Both nice finds! Especially the Airway I had the black version. I like the colors on your version better.

New Vacs

The VitaVac/AirWay is a great find. The cord should be wrapped around both the bottom as shown and handle on bag door.Opening door will then release cord. This style Airway changed from round to square in late 40s with great colors including blue, green, turquoise, yellow and more. They and Electrolux had very good attachments. If you had a complete set for yours you might like canisters for many above floor and under furniture jobs.

Attachments and broken hoover cord.

My vita vac has hose attachments and douglas powerhead. How do I fix my 1985 Hoover Convertible u4379 cord, its completely ripped off.

Your Air-Way/Vita Vac is a wonderful machine. With a new belt on the power nozzle and a new bag in the air evacuation chamber, you should be right in business. Do not buy the white paper bags that are commonly available. They will not function properly. Make a HEPA bag as has been suggested in an above post.
