Hi, I am trying to put new brush roll bearings in a Hoover Convertible brush roll. It originally had all metal bearings and the vac shop sold me new one's with plastic on one side of the bearing. It doesn't seem to want to fit the same way the old one's did. There is a clip that holds it in that doesn't seem like it will go on with the new bearing. The bearing seems to be wider so the little indention that the clips go in aren't exposed now. Can someone tell me how to install the bearings properly?

whats wrong with the old ones?

the two bearings are different and incompatible. the shop gave you bearings for more recent machines. now you know.

The old bearings were rusted so bad that I broke them trying to get them out. So I had no choice but to buy bearings. I have been told by other collectors that bearings even in the concepts would work in a Convertible brush roll. I'm just surprised the vac shop didn't know that they were different. They had the metal one's but the owner told his worker to sell me the plastic tipped one's.

Convertibles switched to the Delrin-disc (plastic) bearings sometime in the 70s(?). maybe what Chris says will work. let us know.
