Hi. I have a Hoover Convertible U4107 that I'm trying to replace the belt. I have the belt around the brushroll and the brushroll is in place. However, it is hard to get the belt around the pulley. It hurts my fingers. Are the belts supposed to be this hard to replace?

I always put it on the pulley first and then put the brushroll in place. You at least can hold the brushroll like a handlebar and get more force on it.
Getting both the bags and the belt on these vacuums is a big faff.

I put them on the pulley first too.
It's easier to pull the brushroll down and into the slots.
I've never had any issues at all with bags.But, oddly, some have.

You can try this
Letting the belt soak in hot water for 10 or 15 minutes.Then load it on the way the others mentioned above. I did get a belt once that there was no way I could stretch it enough to mount. That's rare but it could happen.Good luck.

Hoover Belts

I do a lot of vac repairs and restoration, also. Back a few years ago I purchased a slew of Hoover Convertible belts. Over the years when I would install one, they were extremely difficult to put on and I thought it was me. Once they were on, within seconds after running the machine, I would here, a "BANG/SNAP" I would waste literally 5-6 belts at a clip. Upon inspection, I saw that the belt was broken cleanly. I resorted to using a Eureka belt temporarily. When I called my vendor, I was told that these were a batch of belts made in China. At the time there was no other sources for these belts. Even if I had left the belt on the machine for days and even weeks, when I would run it, I would here, "BANG/SNAP" again. I also realized that these bogus belts were not as supple as the belts were at one time and therefore were far inferior.
Very recently I had the same problem with Eureka upright belts, as well. Upright belts should have ample tension but not so much that they kill your hands to put on. You should not have to fight with it but rather apply firm pressure to get it on whether you put it on the pulley first or stretch it up to the pulley with the agitator in place. You kind of just know it "feels" right. When you are exasperated with it, then you know something is wrong. It's not you.

I've hear this before. Those belts were awful. There's a great supplier in N Canton. I also bought tons from a store in The Poconos.
