My friend's stainless steel Connie's hose has broken into 3 pieces. She is "rough" on things, but...... Replacing the hose unit: $42.00 I'm saving the broken one (for the couplings). Is this common? I have a NIB Connie. Should I inspect the hose? Anyone else have this problem? Can't anyone make a decent hose anymore?
Long live ultraflex AND tuflex.

Welll...

I've not heard of problems with the hoses on the new Constellations... anything can happen, I guess.

But those Ultraflex hoses had their problems with splitting, too... I've seen many with tape all over them, and split..

I'm just happy they brought the Constellation back..
((as short lived as it was))

Yes...you have to be really careful with the hose on the new

As I mentioned in some other posts about the Miele upright hose problems, I had to return two brand new Connies to The Bay Department Store a few years ago because whoever packed the boxes at the factory folded the hoses in such a way as to create really bad crushes and bends in the hose - deformations that reduced the flow of air and that were impossible to straighten.

I did finally find a hose that was not deformed, but this sent me a warning to be very careful in using it. I can't imagine what would happen if someone accidentally stepped on the hose and squashed it - I am convinced it would be deformed for good.

On the positive side, I find the hose on the new Connie very easy to use as it rotates on both ends and stretches to a nice long length when the canister is stuck on the floor somewhere due to an obstruction. I have also found that the best place to store the hose is in the little trough at the base of the canister - I wind the cord around the handle on top in classical Constellation fashion.

Hoover Constellatio problems Too

I got one of the first white Hoover Connie's from Fred and it has a perfect hose BUT I got a Hoover Stainless Connie sent to me direct from Hoover and it came with a defective hose. I just ordered 2 new ones from Hoover as I knew they were not going to be making the Connie any longer and the Stainless has a different color hose.
I also got an Anniversary Hoover canister from Hoover and it arrived with a bad "crush" in the hose too.
