Hoover constellation cleaning?

I bought a Hoover constellation off eBay last week and the attachments and machine are filthy! What type of cleaner would work best for getting the black marks off the attachments. I want the attachments to look somewhat white. I thought about bleach but not to sure about it.
Any ideas??

When the cream-coloured Hoover Sensotronic hose became dirty, I cleaned it with a cream cleaner like 'Jif', also known as 'Cif' now (bloody stupid name!) or 'Vim' in some markets.

Be cautious of bleach, it might make the plastics brittle.

I've been using a cleaner called Soft Scrub to clean some grungy plastics. It cleans deep to remove stains and also has a nice smell. You might want to test a small spot first to see, but in my experience it isn't very abrasive.

Also a Magic Eraser can be useful for getting off marks and scuffs. I buy the generic ones.

Oh, also I would put the hose either outside or in the bathtub or shower and spray it down with a cleaner and let it sit, then spray it off with the hose or showerhead. That's how I cleaned my Constellation hose. Then I used the magic eraser to get off any scuffs or stubborn dirt. You would want to use something that wouldn't harm vinyl but probably is foaming.

Ok. I will be putting the hose in the bathtub and cleaning the other attachments with magic eraser pads.

Use some

Mothers aluminum polish from the auto parts store. Be careful around any printed logos etc.

Denatured alcohol and a white rag on the plastic. But keep it away from any printed characters.


 


As far as the paint...I'd go after it with auto paint restoring products...just don't rub as hard or use abrasive rubbing compound....only because you don't have the paint thickness of auto paint. Go after the paint like you would on a valuable old bicycle...if you've ever restored one.

Wrap the wand end

with saran wrap, then coil the hose on the top rack of your dishwasher, turn off the heated dry and when the cycle is thru your hose will look great, just don't let the aluminum wand go thru the dw unprotected.

I've cleaned them with :

liquid Spic and Span, OR Bon Ami,....gets all the scuffs off.
i've also soaked the hoses in a pail (or sink) of wrm water and detergent, sometimes liquid Lysol. A nicerinse and all of the dirt is gone.

















magic erasers are great, as is Brasso, but, they are right: don't let that touch logos, script, etc.
