Hoover Concept 1 Model U3109

After having found the Bissell Multi-Vac in Goodwill in Port St. Lucie, I proceeded to Jensen Beach, to pick this Concept 1 up in a church thrift store. I paid exactly $20.00 for it, as opposed to $45.00 for the pretty two tone green one in the Community Church Thrift Store. When they lower the price, maybe. It has the off white plastic case with some age yellowing. A little hit with the 3M eraser, should put it to rights. The Hoover Concept 1 sticker on the lower part of the body is somewhat gouged also. This had been in the store for a few months before I decided to take the plunge.

Hey here's my Concept One U3101 I got from Goodwill for 21.95. My boyfriend bought it for me! I didn't use Magic Eraser on the hood just ajax and a brush.. it looks almost new now! Anyone give me any advice on how to change the brush strips in the brush roll? or how to change the lightbulbs??

I'm pretty sure that's the model my mom had, like yours Ericaustin. When she gave it away, I wasn't collecting vacuum cleaners. It was a great vacuum, but too heavy to move for her when the Power Drive wasn't on. We never had any tools with it.

Oh, ours didn't have a light, so yours is more deluxe. Someone here will give you brush and lightbulb advice.

Thanks! I really miss the old days when Hoover made amazing products.. When I was taking this thing apart there was plastic.. but the brushroll is shiny silver steel and such!

Even the ones that immediately replaced them are considered by a lot of people to be good vacuums, even though they are more plastic-y than ours.

Brushes are sorta easy. Remove the brushroller and twist teh two ends in opposite directions. they should move arart b ut if they dont get somebody else to hold one end and take the other end. Once they are apart. Then tap out the inside agitator I dont know what exactly its called. After it is removed you can take out the brushstrips with a flat head screwdriver. The brushes are then just put back in. Then reslide in the iner agitator. Then replace the end caps.

if you take the brushroll out you will soon figure it out. you grasp the endcaps in each hand and turn them against each other. make sure you dont get the washers and bearings behind the endcaps out of order when you take everything apart. any large vac shop will have the brush strips.

Heres my three, The Green one is like the one I talked my Grandmother into buying when they first came out,I liked the blue ones better, like the one Eric found but they only had the green one in stock, I was about 16,It replaced a Dial-a-Matic, wish I still had that. Mark

The three of them are really nice, the green one is similar to the even greener two tone in Jensen Beach Community Church Thrift Store, where they want $45.00 for theirs. I think it has the cord reel. Drop it down to even $25.00 folks, and I'll buy it.

Thanks Alan, The thrift stores have gotten pricey,The Goodwill here always has vacuums priced 19.99 and under,but the Salvation Army is a different story,the vacs in the store are outragiously priced,but when they have way too much stuff they have an outside rummage sale and practically give the stuff away, I usually get a car load of stuff for 20.00,heres my last trip there for 10.00. The pic is a repost,I did finally find a Corning Electric Perc. at a garage sale for 1.00,it even came with two cords and the plastic base to set it on,so thats two stovetop and one electric. Mark

That's quite a haul for one day there, Mark! I love those vacuums and the tools. I picked up another Corning percolator with fruit and veggies on it, that and an Oreck portable are still in the car from last week.

Junk in the trunk

Hi Alan,That makes three Corning Perks for me,two stovetops and the electric,haven't tryed it yet, It's just like the one we had growing up,it got replaced when the Mister Coffee came out. That was the lightest rummage sale haul yet,one time I filled the trunk and interior of my Volvo 240 and part of a friends minivan for 20.00, there's still junk in the trunk of the Volvo,I haven't driven it in a while,but last time I looked in there I found some old Rainbow attachments. Mark

I like the concept of estate sales and rummage sales, but a couple of factors keep me out of them, even the ones I pass on my way somewhere. I still have stereo things in mine, a suitcase still packed from September '07, and kitchen things when my friend gets her new house. How does the Concept Two with the hand vac work?

Concept Two

I plugged it in outside since it was too filthy to bring inside,it seems to work fine except the speed control to raise the speed doesn't work,you can lower the speed and if you unplug it and plug it back in it will go back to the center,the contacts are probably dirty considering how filthy it is,someone tried using the wrong bag in it and it came loose,so it is a mess,it's a really nice day so I just brought it upstairs so I can clean it up on the back deck and Cassie the cat can enjoy the outdoors today, I know what you mean about sales,I have so much stuff I can barely get through my garage, I went trash picking a couple of weeks ago about 15 minutes away where I always find great stuff,I had to make two trips,the first thing was a beautifull antique dining room table,it replaced the glass one that I hated,and then I went back for a refrigerator,It had a sign on it that said I work take me,I've been wanting a fridge for the garage for extra storage,its an almand Magic Chef in great condition,every time I go to the store its like putting together a puzzle trying to fit everything in the small side by side in the kitchen, I had the garage where I could walk through it and then I found a large room size hand made wool area rug that weighs a lot and a 9ft chrismas tree new in its box,just can't pass anything up,just a hopeless case.
