Hoover Cloth Bag Cleaner

Thank you very much. I basically did the best I could with the space I had, that's my basement under my house. You wouldn't know it from the photo, but there's close to 600 Vacs behind the staircase that's behind the bag cleaner, as well as hundreds of hoses, parts, etc. Not to brag, but that buffer machine is a kids toy compared to my other one.. it's about 60 years old, HUGE, the pedestal alone weighs a couple hundred pounds! Its similar to what would be used in the Kirby factory for rebuilding. I got it from an old airway dealer in upstate new York years back. But it's so heavy, I didn't trust taking it down my cellar steps! Buffing has become my specialty, I myself started a long time ago with a handi Butler. I have had thoughts of offering services of buffing, bag cleaning and general rebuilding to other fellow collectors, given all the equipment I have, along with other specialty dealer tools from Kirby, Hoover, eureka, etc. Also have a lot of oddball rebuild parts.. this has been a lifelong obsession since 2 years old, 25 years later I've become an expert on a lot. A dream I'm working towards is to open my own vac shop/museum! I'm also more than happy to pass along any knowledge I may have, as well as answer any questions or help however I can! What started as a hobby and passion, has turned into quite a profession, and I couldn't be happier with it! And if you (or anyone) is ever in the new Jersey area, you're more than welcome to stop by. Happy vacuuming!

VERY CLEVER tandem air bag cleaner!!!Do you have the Shopsmith power tool that is used with that dust collector?I have two Shopsmith machines-but don't have the dust collector.I have thoughts of trying my Kirbys or other uprights with my central vacs I just added to my collection. You have a "Monster Vac" bag cleaner-First connected the Kirby to my NSS M1-will try with the NuTone central vacuums I now have.

Monster vac bag cleaner

I do not have any other shopsmith tools, just the dust collector. I found it on the curb about a year ago, and new right away it was going to be hooked to my bag cleaner! It was dead when I got it, tore it all apart, was sawdust clogging the armature and all thru the motor and brushes. I blew the whole thing out, improved some gaskets on it both for better suction and to better protect the motor from further dust accumulation. Afterwards it worked like a charm. It only had the top filter bag, so I used a heavy rubber strap to hold a contractor trash bag beneath it. Its massively impressive, to but a dirty bag to be cleaned on the bag cleaner, first turn the Hoover motor on, and then see the difference by switching on the dust collector. I need to make sure to keep a tight belt on the bag cleaner brush, because with the help of the dust collector the suction almost causes the bag to be cleaned to slow if not stop the brush roller if I don't keep that bag moving!
I've always had that "monster vac" mentality tho... a month ago, I used a compact and tried using an oreck as a power nozzle (wasn't impressed) I as well was going to try the Kirby idea, connect it's hose to the blower and hook it to the handle as the cord is hooked to it. Thought it would look cool too, just haven't yet. If you do, let me know how it turns out! I have a "kirbylux", I cut notches in the lower part of a red & gray Kirby handle, mounted a chrome lux 30 cord winder, and replaced the black cord with a matching red Kirby cord. It almost looked like it belonged, used it to vacuum my service area for years too. All good fun... keep me posted, and happy (monster) vacuuming!

I am going to try the Kirby with my central vacs sometime soon.will have to figure a way to connect the hoses together. And of course run the machines on separate outlets.Great curb find-the Shopsmith dust collector.Glad you got it working. The machine originally used plastic trash bags to collect the dust after it was filtered out with the cloth top.You can go to the Shopsmith website and order parts for that unit. They still make them.Beleive they also sell replacement top bags that can filter more than the one normally provided.I tried to use an upended Royal metal pright vac as a "bag Cleaner" seemed to work but was awkward.Too bad the Hoover bag cleaner machines aren't still made. With all those Sanitaire dump bag vacuums out there-the bag cleaner could still be useful. And if you have a central vac-connect the bag cleaner to that!

bag machine

I have the standard Hoover bag machine that is in use every week at our store. I also have a long tube, that I think was designed and manufactured by my grandfather and friend. It is 13 or 14 inches longer than the Hoover tube. It also does not look like it will even fit in the Hoover bag machine. It also has 3 bearings instead of the 2 on the Hoover. It has a date stamped on the underside of 1-25-1938.

Interesting extension for the Hoover bag machine-guess this is for large, industrial bags used for Pile lifter vacuums and external filter wet-dry vacuums.I cleaned out the bag on my Tornado Task Force vacuum-used two machines-the dust brush on one of my NSS M1,then a Rug Rat brush on my NuTone CV450 as the last step-The inside of the Tornado bag was almost like new!!!The Rug Rat tool almost levitates when used on the NuTone. It doesn't run as good on the NSS-think the Rug Rat tool was designed for high suction pressure rather than high CFM.The NuTone has high suction pressure and the NSS has high CFM.
