I was looking at my collection the other day and decided today would be a Hoover Day for cleaning. This vacuum was given to me at my very first convention. Chuck Chatham gave me this Model 706 Hoover Convertable.

Here a couple of photos

Here she is ready for all of my above the floor cleaning jobs. I was thinking to myself as I was using the above the floor tools, not great suction, but for the time frame these vacuums were in service, most housewives cleaned daily or at least twice a week. So, the tools would have done a fair job at quick pick ups and light dusting. People were still doing Spring and Fall cleaning, using the these tools on a regular basis would have kept up with the normal household.

I love that convertable, but your right the suction just didn't get it. I had a lot of Kirby experience in those early days and just could not understand why these wonderful new Hoovers with complete tool sets just didn't suck !
Then there were the DAM Hoovers. They were great and my answer to a "HOOVER/KIRBY"

Morgan!

Wow...the 706 is a very rare promotional Convertible model from 1970. They only made them for about a year before going to the 707 (LIME GREEN with a matching plaid bag no less...hey you either loved it or hated it!) You even have the proper tool set for it (model 1061). The deluxe tools are just right for day to day cleaning like you mention. If you are trying to clean out your minivan and 8 kids then you would be a little under vacuumed. However, keeping up with your house daily would allow you to use the tools with the Convertible and not have any trouble whatsoever. This model is often forgotten about because the color (seal griege light and persian gold) is very bland. However, the machine cleans like a Hoover. I hope that you had lots of fun using it! Thanks for posting the pics!

Guys I also have the model 706. It is in near perfect condition except for the "sad" replacement bag. Morgan are those the correct tools that would have been sold with the 706?

is the original motor hood on this model colored greige? wow, ive never seen a Hoover quite like that. nice colors.

Yes, that is the original color. Terry has a replacement bag on his, I believe mine to be an original bag as it matches the bumper on the machine.

Terry's machine is in better condition than mine as far as paint, ect. This machine has alway meant a lot to me as it was a gift from a very special friend. Chuck and I met at my first convention and have remained friends ever since. He will be at the convention this year if I have to drive to his place and pick him up...LOL

(hopefully your reading this thread Mr. Chatham!!!)
