Hoover centralized vacuum- stopped working partially

Hi,
I have a Hoover centralized vacuum installed in my garage. It has two buttons one is for carpet and other for hard wood floor, from last couple days when i try to turn on option 1, its not working at all, option 2 for carpet works fine.

I tried from all inlet in the house but no luck. i have another switch in kitchen that is not working as well, i am assuming that is same is option 1 button.

I tried cleaning the container but still same, please help me on how can i troubleshoot ? is it indicating the motor is bad ?

Are you positive that the vacuum in your garage (not just the powerhead) is turning on when you move the switch to carpet? If so, it is likely an issue with the switch in the hose. If the hose is made by Plastiflex, you'll replace the whole wiring harness.

If the vacuum is not turning on in the suction-only position (I) or powerhead position (II), you'll probably need to take the machine to a local vacuum store for service.

It sounds like a problem with the swicth at the end of the hose to me as well. If it's a Hoover made hose, this is the part that would need to be replaced.

Thanks for your response, i did double check and found vacuum unit in the garage is not turning on , the suction-only position (I) dose'nt do anything and powerhead position (II) only starts he powerhead (starts rotating with no suction).


is there anything i can do myself ? i checked the circuit breaker at home for the power outlet and cleaned the vaccum filter. there is one switch in the upper side of unit and a push button as well, i tried both but no luck.

Please suggest what might be the issue and if i can troubleshoot any further at home ?

Go to your inlet on the wall, take the hose out.  There should be two small pins on the inside of the inlet, either on the top or the bottom (you can see the pins in the photo below, circled in red).  Take a penny and hold it between the two, in order to complete the circuit.  You could also use a small piece of aluminum foil.   It's low voltage, so you won't get a shock.  If the unit in the garage turns on and you get suction when you complete that circuit, it's likely a problem with the switch in your hose.  If nothing happens, it's likely the unit in your garage and will need to take the unit in for service.

i tried to do reset and on/off switch on the top part of unit(pic attached)
but no luck, looks like motor is bad?

But that power switch to the top right of the photo sticks out like a sore thumb...

<div>Try taking out those two spade connectors and short-circuit them with a pair of needle-nose pliers. If it makes a click sound, the motor is likely bad. Your machine uses an Ametek Lamb 116472.</div>

Hello,
So looks like i found the problem-

today i connected the vacuum to different power outlet and it runs without completing the circuit.

I pulled off the two spade connectors and then again plugged in power cord of vacuum unit and i found it turns on directly without doing a short-circuit.

Is that mean relay is bad or somehow vacuum unit's circuit getting complete already from inside the unit, would you suggest me taking unit down and look inside to find connections / possible short circuit ?

or could it be reset button? not sure what its for but i tried to press and nothing happened.

If it's running constantly while the manual switch is in the off (0) position, the relay is faulty.
