hoover celebirty

Hi everyone,

I just had a quick question about the hoover celebirty. Does any of these models float on air? I know the constellation does but I was wondering if these did too.

Any other information on any of either the constellation or the celebirty would be
appreciated.

Yes they had multiple models that floated in the 70's. Some were bottom of the line budget models and some were lower mid range with power nozzles. I have a yellow floater model that does have a power nozzle.

I have a mid-eighties BOL Celebrity that floats. The lid is a poppy red and the bottom is brown.

They are kind of like a

flattened Connie. The ones with wheels , well, they roll along. The others, I have several, love them, float, with the exhaust just like the Connies.

I have always been into Kirby vacs but wanted to expand my collection to more of a range of brands. Hoover made some pretty cool vacs around the mid century and I wanted to get my hands on some of those. Another question... is there any real differences from the connies and the BOL celebrity's that float. Besides the shape?

Didn't they quit making the floating cleaners because they would melt carpet if left in the same spot for too long? That's what they told me when I went to the Hoover Historical Center.

I'm told the Celebrities were more powerful. They used a different motor than the Constellations did, and Connies take a J bag where the Celebrities take an H bag.

I owned a yellow Celebrity when I was young that floated on air and it had a power nozzle. It worked great on carpets and it seemed very powerful for such a unique and simple design. Unfortunately I parted ways with it because the exhaust would blow carbon dust from the motor directly onto the carpet and leave dark marks that I would have to then turn around and vacuum up! So, although I really liked using it because the canister was easy to move around, it just didn't make sense to use it often.

I have both a floating bottom of the line Celebrity (the red on top/brown on bottom) and one with two casters at the front and two wheels at the back (chrome on top/green on bottom).

I opened both to clean them and I noticed there are a few differences as to the fans and the air diffusers.

The floater has a single fan, whereas the one with wheels has twin fans. Both have a black plastic cover with clips that holds it over the fan(s), and there's one round hole on the bottom where the exhaust comes out.

There is foam diffusing material in both. The floater has a yellow foam that looks like a sunburst pattern, a circle with little rays coming out from it.

The one with wheels has a black piece of foam that's round with a hole in the middle. The air comes out through vents in the bottom housing. The floater has an exhaust port on the bottom where you can connect the hose for blowing, the one with wheels doesn't have that.

I think some of the earlier models with wheels do have a blower port that can be closed off when not needed.

With mine the floater is much louder than the wheeled version. That could be though that my wheeler is a QS Quiet Series model. Not sure how that compares to the non-QS non-floaters. But generally vacuums with twin fans are quieter than single fans.

I don't recall if the motors were different between the two, but I think there are slight differences, and I think the amperages are likely higher on the QS one because it's a top of the line model. I know with the power nozzle it's 12 amps like a modern canister would be, but there's no mention of the canister motor's amperage itself.
