It's good to see the mid 70s European range. At last I know what a U5010 is, and the differences between the S4002/6/8 models.

And I love the furniture that's being shampooed!

Tommy...Thanks for the scans! Wow I just love those Hoover designs. I think my favorite Hoover would be the 427 cylinder cleaner. Those look great and would still be usable by today's standards. It just goes to show you that Hoover beats as it sweeps as it cleans. Thanks again! Great Hoover pics!!!!

Enjoying seeing the differences between each countries products...one thing was that Hoover were not afraid of colour in the seventies...I love the purple coloured 4008 cylinders, and had forgotten about the "Foot Pedal" switches.

Mine has the later height adjuster.

also noticed some other quirks in this brochure:

The U1012/6 seem to have a metal bottom cord hook.

The U5002 seems to have the early body (no cord emerging from the side).

There are different versions of the S4008 (one has 'Hoover 1000' on the side in the picture with the tool caddy).

The S4002 has no flex!

Interesting....

Look at the tools next to the power drive cleaner, what we know as a Dialamatic in the states. Here in the states, that type of tool goes on a Convertible (Senior in Europe). On the stateside Dialamatics, the tool conversion is on the rear of the hard body, with a switch to deflect suction from the bottom to the hose.

On the "suction" cleaners, what are those red tabs on top of the nozzle? Is that to adjust for floor or rug cleaning?

Hi Scott,

The toolkit next to the Dialamatic types was the Convertible/Senior type toolkit. The DAM machines had a hose that plugged into the back like its US equivalents.

The red pedals on the suction cleaners retracted and lowered the brushes on the nozzle. They were more common on high-end European machines until about 1980, while basic models had the 'flip over' type floor tool - the 427 and S4002 for example.
