I finally got lucky at salvation army! I went there after school today, and saw a:

Bissell Little Green
Durabrand Canister
Hoover Hard Cover Elite (bag chamber kept popping off)
Hoover Elite Rewind without filter
Hoover AutoDrive

I purchased the last one for $15, since it came with all of the attachments. This model is self propelled, and was made in the US.
Model No. U6319-930
The serial number is: 079700027276
I'm guessing from the first 4 digits of the serial that this vacuum was made 7/97. I'll test it out once I buy some bags. Does it take Z or Y bags?

Why can't I find a Self Propelled Vacuum Cleaner for that price!?

I have the Hoover Power Drive version of this vacuum, & it is an excellent cleaner for an Hoover upright! Your bag can take the Hoover Type Z Microfiltration bags, but they are hard to find at retail shops....you usually have to go to a vac shop. Hoover Type Y Microfiltration bags, for the Hoover Windtunnel uprights, also fit this vacuum, & are much easier to find at retail shops. You can also use the Hoover Type Y HEPA cloth bags in it too, for better filtration. This is what I use, as I am an allergy sufferer.

Is the switch supposed to drop down if you don't pull it all the way?

I just gave the vacuum a test run, and here's what I think about it. The vacuum isn't too heavy to pick up, despite being self propelled. Once the vacuum is adjusted correctly, the self propelled feature will pull itself along fairly quickly. My carpet did have a nice groomed feeling none of my other vacuums give. I vacuumed 4 rooms, and got a half full bag. Unfortunately, when I pulled the vacuum back, a small piece of the plastic where the bumper had gotten unattached chipped off. The tool suction is very weak, but the attachments are high quality. Overall, i would give this vacuum an 8/10. This was definitely worth the $15 I paid for it.
