Hoover aquaplus

when I was I Birkenhead on new years day I saw a hoover aquaplus sitting in the window of the local charity shop the British heart foundation. I put a thread on vacuumland to let everyone know it was there as I wasn't going to take it. I went to Birkenhead again about 8 days later and saw it was reduced from 50 pounds to 20 pounds and I just couldn't resist it! so I ended up taking the hoover aquaplus home to find out it had minimal suction. I took the hood off and the motor was caked in dust and the vacuum cleaner had been used bagless with a very mucky filter. so after all the cleaning I done to it I finally got the suction as close as I could to when the cleaner was new. it came as seen in the pictures there were no dry or wet tools apart from the extension tubes and floor tools. I used to own the hoover aquamaster so when there were no other tools I knew something was missing so I went onto amazon and I have ordered a pack of 2 crevice tools for it for 5 pounds and 2 pounds postage and packaging. I also ordered some bags for the machine which were three pounds plus free postage and packaging. I don't think this is a carpet shampooer like the hoover aquamaster I think this is just a wet and dry machine. Here are some photos!

They wanted £50 for that? They were very lucky to get £20. I do not understand the mentality of some of these charity shops. The items they get have all been donated, so it's all money in the till. The prices they ask are sometime way over what one might call "the going rate". Never more so that the Tesco Value toaster I saw in one shop for £5. They were only £4-something brand-new. Perhaps the stains and the grease marks constituted "added value"? I had to leave the shop anyway as it had an feint background odour of urine. We have that in my community room here, I don't need to get on a bus to go elsewhere to smell it.

your right vintagerepairer, I nearly left it, it just looked like it needed a new home so I couldn't resist it. I think considering that there was no bag or tools that it should have been 10 pounds and 15 pounds at a push. what annoys me though is that I had to take this vacuum apart and clean it just to get it to suck. It had a tested sticker on it so I would expect it to work properly instead of me having to fix it. all the shop probably done was turn it on and hear the motor and to a charity shop that is good enough to them that means its working. I am just happy I have it working now.

You are right- what most charity shops will do is switch an appliance on and see if it makes a noise. Unless the volunteers do have some vacuum knowledge, which the odd few do, there is no checking of filters, brushroll etc.
BHFs have a pricing guide structure, as I know it's sometimes hard to imagine but a lot of people do not know the value of an appliance by just looking at it, so they will look to the pricing guide, which isn't the clearest, and price the appliance accordingly, in this case your aquaplus will have been seen as a wet/dry or carpet cleaner, regardless of what it includes, or in some cases, what it actually is!
The pricing guide lacks models, it merely states a handful of brands. It does mention age but most people will not know the age of an appliance unless it is clearly very old, IE coffee makers and irons are common examples of age related items. This is why, for example, Dysons are often priced at £70. To an untrained eye, a dc01 and a dc07 side by side may appear of the same value, they're both "Dyson".
