Hoover Aqua Plus 1700

The Hoover Aqua Plus was found in a vast majority of households in South Africa during the 80's, 90's and 2000's. It too, had an option of 17 litre or 22 litre drums, where the 22 litre drums were phased in more to the mid 90's.

At a 1000 Watt it does a good straight suction cleaning of carpets floors and upholstery, compared to later models in other makes on the market. Fitted with a permanent filter, some models could also use the paperbag in conjunction with the filter bag, but at a later stage the paper bag adopter noo longer accompanied new machines, and one had to do with a double filtration one pre motor and one post motor filtration.

They were still sold under hoover but called a duo Vac, with an 1800 W motor. The hose and fittings have changed from the usual hoover push over turn lock system, to a push in only adopter setting.

The Aqua Plus have come a long way and has changed colour over the years from darker green to Swiss green -navy blue to post office red, to grey, but the basic mould has remained the same.

Love them, Hate them, they are cool too.

The post office red Aqua Plus has helped a great deal when having to do damage control when the geyser exploded in my on-suite bathroom and the tap that shuts off the water to the geysers could not be found, and had to wait for a plumber to eventually came to shut off the flood of water pouring through the ceiling. The ceiling fell out because of the water weight and even flooded downstairs.

Thanks for posting this, Adrian. It's interesting to see the different variations. We had a few cleaners of this style, but all the domestic versions came with metal tubes, not plastic ones. I don't recall there ever being one in this colour scheme either.

Metal tubes...

were supplied with the 3-in-1 carpet cleaners. The UK wet & dry Hoover cleaners always had plastic tubes.

All the aqua plus models that was sold in south-Africa had plastic extension tubes, and quite right the later models 3 in 1 Hoover aqua masters and Hoover Aqua Jet models had the aluminium x-tubes with the turn lock system, if my memory serves me right. They also had the crushproof hose, however the handle elbow/bend remained plastic, housing the suction control reducing suction power.

As far as I can remember the Hoover Aqua Plus wet n dry, I only remember them having plastic wands.

Interesting enough, with the aluminium wands, when shampooing or extracting water, the wand will have a luke warm temperature instituting the temperature of the solution vacuumed up and when the moist was extracted from the carpet the suction cools down the wands and they become cold, and is evident in feeling on the outside of the wand, as aluminium has the ability to carry loadings, and temperature, whereas the plastic wands not.

I had a rather neat early aquaplus that came with 50mm hose and plastic pipes for use outdoors. It had the big double stage motor.

I have a few aqua Most of them have been used to the point of destruction here in SA.

I have a 1700 and a module 1000.

In my workshop my one technician has STINKY old but still working perfectly module 1000. Its named STINKY due to the smell coming out of it despite washing all the filters and foam pads it stinks but he loves using it
