I saw it in the window and just had to have it! It is a beautiful machine. Quieter than the Aniversary Blue Windtunnel and with a completely different feel. The light reminds me of the lens on my 28. It has a soft curve. It comes with two removable compartments. You can use a Hoover Y hepa bag or bagless bin with hepa filter. Has the tools and the pet hair power tool with the Hoover emblem.

Hoover Anniversary Convertible

This Hoover has a much improved dusting tool set-up. The hose connection is very low on the machines and the rear wheels are set very wide. All you have to do is connect the extension hose to the regular Hoover hose and you are cleaning. On my Windtunnnel you have to comepletely remove the regular hose to connect the extennsion hose. Also the Convertible has the brush off switch on the user handle so you can go from Carpet to bare floor or tools without the brush running. It is much much quieter with the tools. Because of the low attachment of the hose and wider wheels the machine can be pulled behind you much like a tank cleaner. The powered hand tool is much improved over the one that came with my Windtunnel Powerdrive. It feels so different than my other newer Hoovers. I feel like I am using a 63 with the dusting tools. I think it is well worth the exra money over the Blue Anniversary Hoover although you have to go a LONG way to beat that beautiful color. It realy stands out in the stores.

I feel ambivalent

I do like it for a modern machine. It's attractive. I like the fact that it comes with a bare floor nozzle. And, I've always wanted a bagless machine that had the option to be used as a bagged machine. The Windtunnel V2 came out several years ago and had the interchangeable bagged/bagless system, though we didn't sell many of them at Sears. They were heavy and the plastic cup that the bag fit in was not easy to use to change the bag in.

I just cannot believe they would defame the name of one of their best and most exalted cleaners like Convertible by renaming a modern plastic "vacuum" the same thing! Of course I doubt TTI cares anything about the Hoover history/legacy... supririsingly enough they have turned out some better products than I expected!

What would have been great is if they had made a REAL Convertible again. They did it with the Connie.

I would not be the first time. They used both the Convertible and Constellation names on Elite style uprights in the past.

In the case of this new upright, it is really convertible because you can used bags or the bagless options. Its the best choice of classic names they could choose from in my opinion.

I have always used a Panasonic upright set of attachments/hose
as an add on for my Windtunnel upright. Just plug the machine end of the panasonic hose into the end of the windtunnel hose and away you go. Especially doing stairs.
Have
several friends and family I have recommended the windtunnel
and got them the extra tool sets with 2 wands and floor brush.

Does anyone have an Elite with the Constellation name on it? I have never seen this.

I agree with Vacuumfreeeke, I would have much preferred to see an actual Convertible reissued, plastic base or not. They did an excellent job with the new Connie, this was a real let down. This is the same cleaner as the Windtunnel V2, with one roller brush instead of 4, and the same 12-amp "gas guzzler" motor. At the very least, I would have liked to have seen Hoover's centennial noted on the machine. I might actually buy it then. I would never equate this machine to the quality of a Hoover model 28 or 63.

I don't have any pictures, but according to Hescoinc's web site the "Convertible" is model U5065-980 and the "Constellation" is model U5233-930. I have seen one or both on ebay at some point.

Hoover Anniversary Convertible

Hey Guys,maybe I am missing the point but didn't Hoover make the Convertible cheaper and cheaper and cheaper as the years passed. I have never seen one but I think there was a post some time ago about the Convertible being manufacured at the end with a plastic hood,base and cheap plastic bag and without the beater bars?
My parents and grandparents both had Convertibles in the 60's and both got rid of them within a year. They complained about leaking dust and the cleaning tools.They used to sell them at the cheapest stores in town for $59.95. Don't you think times changed and what people wanted was a lighter vacuum that they could clean both carpets and hardwood floors and have attached tools. Because of my age I didn't realize the buying public doesn't expect their vacuuum to last like we collectors. I think a lot of people just see it as a disposable item to be replaced every year or so. No I would not ever compare what Hoover has put out on the market in the last 25 years with a Hoover 150,28 or 63. I just want to celebrate Hoover's Anniversay be grateful for our club and all the work that has been done for the convention. I do feel very sorry for all those deicated workers in North Canton.

I think this renamed Hoover Windtunnel V2 is heavier than a Convertible... especially the plastic ones from the eighties. And, I'd still take a plastic Convertible over a modern Hoover any day... the style and form are classic, and I'd dare to say still better quality.

I bet it wouldn't have been very difficult for them to have produced a real Convertible... they probably still have the molds from the commercial vacs that resembled Convertibles.

I also wondered why Anniversary edition isn't written on the cleaner...

rumor has it that

the "convertible" IS returning... and, that, they wanted the name to be recognizable again. So, keep your eyes open.....
