I posted on my acquisition not long ago. I asked about the bearing.
I drilled out the rivets. I need advice on how to take apart bearing. I've ruined many things so I'm asking again for help as I'm not wanting to ruin.

Is that a ball bearing? I'm only guessing, but it looks like the top is crimped to the bottom piece around the circumference of the flange. You could very carefully grind off the crimp, leaving enough metal for the rivets to hold onto. That should separate the two halves. Once the rivets are back in, they will hold the two halves together.

However, the top half looks like itself is two pieces. (Picture 2.) I can't quite tell from the picture how they're joined, or if it's even two pieces.

Mind you, I'm only guessing here, never seen anything like this before. If the bearing is good, I might just try to squish as much grease in it as you can, and reinstall.

Maybe

Here is a pic of the pic of the day thread. I'm not positive where but I think your right. If you look at pic where would it seperate?

Those look different from yours, but still look like two stampings that are just sandwiched together. These might be spot welded, but I can't see it. Look in the top bolt hole of the left bearing - you can see two layers of metal. That's the top half and the bottom half.

Anyhow, it looks like this is how yours are constructed. Still unsure about the top bit, though. It looks shinier than the rest, can't tell from pics if it's a different piece of metal or that's just how the stamping turns out.

you cant remove that bearing

just get a fine tip grease gun, remove the felt washers, and get a small flat blade driver to push the grease in. there is a physical separation of race from the outer bearing race and the grease goes in there. DO NOT remove the bearing from the plate. its not meant to be removed.

Can't remove the bearing? That sounds like a challenge to me!

To be fair, I don't think it needs to be removed either, not for maintenance greasing, anyway. I would just mush grease in there with my fingers, no special tools needed. But hey, maybe it's damaged and needs to be examined. I don't know.

Also nice double post :P

Bleh

It can be removed and it was. Don't worry bearing plate is okay. The bearing i used grinder. Smokin, I noticed it's same bearing as d80. I'm going to use Kirby bearing plate drill out needed section reattach to Hoover.

Update

I have the replacement bearing plate with screws to attach it. I guess it is a kit. I'm just glad all Hoover parts.
Should be here early next week. Henry vacuum came through with another rare part.
