Hoover 700 Special

I started this project back near the end of the Summer. By posting this, maybe it will motivate me to get it finished. The 700 was rebuilt at the factory in July of 1940. Great machine with the double ball bearing motor. Need to finish the motor cap, brush, and powdercoat the handle. Some people probably don't like to see a complete teardown and machine buff, but this vacuum was in terrible shape. Just look at the custom blue paint on the handle, and imagine the whole machine. The bottom was resprayed with Rustoleum Metallic Matte Nickel. It is a great match to the dull silver on the bottom of these machines.

Thank you for the paint suggestion also; I need to machine buff my 800 to hopefully look something like yours, and the bottom needs a re spray.

How do you get things like the cord protector spring to shine? I would think that would be tough to do on the wheel.

The cord spring was polished on the buffer as well. Just apply light pressure to keep the wheel from getting it and ripping it out of your hand. The handle bail was also bent on this machine. The handle had about an 8 degree lean. I was able to straighten it but it was scary. I was careful, and got it straight without cracking it.

She's coming along pretty good. You're certainly going all out on your 700 special.
The badge on mine was pretty trashed, so I just went with a "Patina" look on my machine. A light polish but still retaining its character, traveling 89 years through time. Everything mechanical was gone through.
I am puzzled to whom thought painting the handle that shade of blue was a good idea.
