hi all,

i have seen the hoover 700 i bought off of ebay. the seller used a web photo for the listing.

the one i have purchased is a hoover 700 rebuilt at the hoover factory in perivale. in the states they are known as hoover specials.

i am still pleased with it in spite that the orange triangle badge is not there anymore. just a big badge stating it as a rebuild.

i was not aware that the hoover company here even rebuilt former models and i dont know of any here.

if there are any rebuilt examples here in the U.K please post a few pics so i can see what mine would look like once refurbished. i will post a few of mine when it gets here. gary.

Rebuilds

Gary

I often wonder if these re-builds are one reason why so may pre-war Hoovers are around. In the early 1950s there was actually another Scottish factory to deal with overhauling trade-ins. In the early 1950s, due to the repaying of war debt the vast majority of production was assigned for export, which led to shortages at home - although Hoover cleaners (and other products) were heavily promoted there were still long waiting lists. But another factor is that, at the time, purchase tax was running at 50% on top of the basic price of the cleaners. But re-conditioned models were not subject to this making a good quality cleaner available to those who could not run to the cost of a new cleaner - and as we know, these pre war models WERE good cleaners :)
