Hoover 700 motor disassembly?

Hey guys,
I was refurbishing my Hoover 700. I got the whole motor housing separated from the body and the impeller off the armature shaft. However, there's a plate behind the impeller held on my 4 screws. Are there any tricks for removing it?

I'd also love to hear of any sources for replacement rubber bumpers.

Perhaps if you remove the four screws from the lower bearing plate you will be able to remove the armature from the field housing, if you have not already done so. Before you remove the armature, it might be a good idea to remove the carbon brushes and springs from the commutator on the top end. Otherwise, you might loose them if they pop out.
Just some suggestions from an amateur but hope it helps.

Thats why I remove the brushes via the screw-in plugs first. My 541 requires you to move the brush holder to remove the motor brushes, and you need 3 hands to put it all back together...

Just finshed...

doing exactly what you've described on an old 541. It WAS a tricky task and dirty too! In this case however, the brushes were stuck from years of non-use, so fortunately, they didn't go anywhere.

700 rubber bumper...

The vac supply houses might have some bumper material. However, if you're a purist, you might want to look for a junk 700 series with a decent bumper.
