Hoover 612 refurb 1940s/50s

I got this in the same joblot as the vortex and the Turboboost but due to work have never really had the time or energy to do anything with it, anyway here it is, it needs a lot of work doing to it but Im sure I will be able to do something with it.

unfortunately the bag is a generic replacement but hopefully I will be able to make my own.

Removing the hose adapter end, this allowed tools to be inserted into the cleaner via the side.

The fan exposed strangely enough no major damage.

And into the bath everything goes, I couldn't help noticing this little spider at the bottom of the bath.

Now to start on the motor

Time to take everything out of the bath, here is the result.

Sanded down the motor cover, surfaces scratches need some attention but all things considering it wont turn out to bad at the end.

I love machines in this state! Looks like it will at least work as new when you are done with it, even it it wont look like new!

Although it will look a damn sight better!

Nice work so far

I must say you have more patience then I think I have. I have a Rexair/Rainbow D the motor sounds fine but when I looked up inside I can see lots of caked on dirt. I'm just to afraid of taking her apart and not knowing what to do with parts and should I make it throug that I'm terrified I'll put her back together wrong. So bravo on your Hoover. I'm looking forward to the final product!!

Don't be afraid to take it apart. Take lots of before pics. Make reference marks if you need to. 


number the parts if a fan assembly, etc.


Bag all the parts & pieces, put notes in the bags.


Careful preparation & patience will ensure it goes back together properly.
