Hi lads,

I have been given one of these, however in really dirty condition. However, its only dirt and looks complete and does work ok.

I have cleaned everything up and managed to get the end off to inspect the motor, which is absolutely caked in dust. There is a filter covering the motor and this is completely thick with dust too. Maybe this is why it has such a poor "suck" power at the moment. I will clean the filters and try again later this week.

Anyone else have one of these nice little hoovers?

Thanks,

Nick

417G

Hello Nick,

The colour scheme of your vac is my favourite. In its day this model would have performed very well with the its hooverette 2944 size of carpet nozzle.

A few tips; chuck or wash out the filter at the motor end; it appears to be almost of a fibre glass composition. I think it was meant to be more for sound reduction rather than dust filtration? thoroughly clean the dust bag and pre motor filter and always us a paper bag.

I have the swedish green and pine version.

A very good basic cylinder cleaner, nice little motor, good value for money compared with the equivalent budget electrolux ZA64 or goblin models.

Best wishes and enjoy,

Walter, Shropshire.

Best wishes

British sold Hoovers are so beautiful, we never got anything like that in the USA and if so it was never in a nice color combination. A lot of boring greys and blacks and browns.

Hoover 417

Actually a similar model was sold in the US in the early 1950s - this is a derivation of the Hoover Model 41 also known as the Hoover Holiday I believe.

This model was introduced around 1953 the replacement for the Hoover 402 (US Hoover Model 40). Originally well specified it was considerably de-featured in 1956 when the Constellation was introduced although there was not much difference in the price.

I must say, I am inclined to disagree with Walter in that I think the Lux 64 was the better cleaner, it was a newer design though.

This 417 would be from the early to mid 60s - it did have various colour changes up until it was replaced by the 427 in 1972. I have them all - I must do some pictures:)

There is an earlier model 417 on eBay right now - its is advertised as a Goblin but it is just in a Goblin box. Unfortunately it is collection only but they do come up from time to time
