Well someone deserves a good spanking!

You come to London and you do not contact me to see my cleaners too? And I only work a few km from the Hoover factory as well!

Oh well maybe another time. Congratulations on the 262, although there are some points to note:
1 On certain years of production the flex (cord) can react with itself, particularly on pressure point like around the hooks, so that the rubber on the outside of the flex reacts with itself amd "melts" - I can think of no better description for it. So, you will need to keep an eye on it to make sure it does not happen to yours. The inner cables are fine, its just the outside cover.
2. Sorry, I do not think that is the original bag, which should be more like that used on the 612 - the one you have is a very good match though.

I did not think much of the 262 either but I have grown to like mine too.

hi guido. i really liked the story of you and 262 escapading around london. i hope you both had a good time. your collection looks great. i have a hoover 119 which is my pride and joy. i had sold it in 2006 to fund a trip to spain. i spent a few years kicking myself for selling it as i never saw another even close to the condition mine was in. just before xmas 2011 i saw one for sale on ebay which looked very familiar. i saw the seller id and almost died. the same ebayer that bought it from me was selling it. i couldnt click the buy it now button fast enough. a few days later it came back to me in the post. my aunt has named it BOOMER as like a boomerang when you throw, it comes back to you. now we are reunited i have no plans to ever sell him again. here is a pic of him with his boxes and tools. gary.

THANKS EVERYONE !

Oh thankyou both !

Al : sorry I did not contact you but I came to LONDON really "last minute" and had no plans at all ! At that moment I just wanted to escape from Italy and from everyday life to forget all the problems at my restaurant: I adore Great Britain and in LONDON i feel like at home ! As always the city gave me all the good mood and energy I needed to re-start but it would have been extraordnary to see your collection !!!!!!!!!!! but listen : I come to LONDON at least 2 times a year so....I think I will soon let you know my next visit, it' a promise, possibly before summer-season starts ( really busy here on Lake Garda ! ).
As far as the 262 BAG, well I will post a better image tonight here ( as you cannot really see it well in my foto, with the HOOVER CLEANER logo and all ) : I would appreciate a second look and opinion from you, in order to be sure if this is a replacment or not. And thanks again for the HOOVER 160 instructions !

THANKS EVERYONE !

GARY : your story is as crazy as mine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This cleaner is in wonderful condition ! Mine is really poor....but I love all of them anway ! Listen : I have now a straight rule : whatever happens I never sell anything from my collection even when I need money !!!. I also did it in the past and was always so repented ! So now I know it and I can sell everything but nothing from my personal collection ! I prefer to give something for free to other collectors but never sell, ehhe !

HOOVER 262 - latest London find

So here is a better image of my HOOVER 262 model : Al, please give a look at the bag and let me know if it might be original. The handle is also very well kept and is not perishing like many of that series usually are...anyway i have oiled all rubber parts with AREXON'S PNEUS OIL hoping the rubbers to last longer and avoid drying...hope it is a good choice !

Bag

Guido

Do send me a message when you next come to London - my email address is in my profile. I am afraid the bag look slike a replacement - here is mine.

The clue is that there is no mention of emptying the bag. Still, yours is a very good match and I dont think it takes from the value of the cleaner at all :)

hi guido, i now feel the same way about my 119. i was extremely fortunate to be able to buy it back like i did as that almost always never happens. maybe it was fate? the bag on your 262 is a replacement but a very good one though. the photo that vacbear58 sent shows the original. yours must be a replacement made for that series of models. i sometimes wonder if the hoover company figured that one day these machines would be collector items so they came up with aftermarket replacement bags instead of giving the service stations a supply of original bags when people needed them. maybe they only wanted the examples in their museums to be originals. WHO KNOWS!!! my 119 bag is original and i converted it to take paper bags to prevent wear. not many bags survived as people shook the bags like instructions said.
