Hey guys. I disassembled my 1334 upright because the motor needed replacement bearings. Before I managed to do the repair I got a bit sidetracked and had to hastily put it back together to use.

I decided to leave off the brush roller and the belt that drives it... I'm glad I did! Apart from being a lot lighter, the lack of load on the motor to turn the roller makes this thing far more powerful than it's ever been! It's a massive improvement and I won't be putting the roller back.

Has anyone else tried this? Do you think it could cause the motor to eventually burn out? (It's audibly turning faster!)

Thanks!

Hi Steve ! Please be careful..you might burn the motor !!! Listen : I had the same idea some years ago for my beloved and first navy blue HOOVER 6525c : when I took away the brushroll, the vacuum was much lighter and i also liked the airplane-noise of it.....also it was no longer shaking, without the beating bar hitting the floor.... Luckily enought, i asked about it to my local HOOVER repair shop ( an old man who knew this old machines very very well ) and he advised me not to do that, because the hoover engine does have a maximum number of cycles per minute and - if it goes further - it will easily overheat and damage or burn ....so the engine does need a "brake" with the rubber ring and brushroll. Hope this helps ! GUIDO

hmmm although I don't think it'll burn the motor out as such because at the end of the day, the tool converter for it removed the belt anyway so that the hose could be inserted, i'm with Seamus on this one. It seems daft using it without the brushroll because it was never designed to work in that way, so performance is never going to be 'better' using it like that. It's pointless. If the brush roll on your one is slowing the motor down that much, then i'd suggest you look at possible issues with the brush roll itself. It should turn freely.

no brushroll

i would agree the machine is only going to pick up surface dirt and very little of that the suction isnt that great the combination of suction and the Hoover brushroll are what made this machine a cut above its competitors
