Hoover 105

Today I got a Hoover 105 Special for $5. I would like to clean it up, obviously not to use but I do want it in good order. I know nothing about it except it's a special and it is from 1919. Since it's a special I assume it was rebuilt. It has blue paint on most of it. Would that be the rebuild color? Also, There is a dinky lamp cord on it and the back wheels are missing. I would LOVE to find the wheels and original cord, but I would guess that is a lofty goal. The bag is a really clean replacement. The brushroll is decent and the belt pulley actually spins semi freely. I believe the machine has its original belt...I'd just like some opinions on what I should do to it. Any ideas on how to restore and/or resources for parts would be much appreciated!

Firstly, why not use it ? If it sucks, it can be used on a daily basis even with good maintenance. I would!

Secondly, I doubt it is the original belt unless it has seen less than a years use since brand new because that is about the maximum life of a round belt. Plus, you'd know if it were original because being over 90 years old it would be SOLID.

Sorry to nit pick but would you seriously drive an upright Hoover without wheels on a carpet and a rare one at that, Jamie?

Obviously WITH wheels Ryan, I wouldn't use any vacuum without wheels.

Painting

I think in the future I will paint the handle, base, and motor cover to be original... I don't really have experience with motors so I am Leary of jumping that far in. And it would be great to see that brochure! Thanks for the info!

Thanks for posting that, John. It's really neat. I used the inflation calculator and the special would cost more than $800 today!
