So in the past two months, I have gone from having no vintage vacuums to four. All Hoovers. My first was a previously posted Hoover 105. It's going through a nuts and bolts cleaning and rehab.

Last week, I followed up on some languaishing Craigslist ads over 30 days old. One in Madison - 91 miles away was a "one owner" Hoover 725. Older gentleman was cleaning out his aunts place, and put it up for sale. Complete, running, and reasonably clean for $25.00. Too far to drive. Guy offered to meet me just 20 miles from my home. Sure. Done deal. Just got it yesterday. Needs a cord.

Another Craigslist seller in Chicago had two 700's and an original dusting tool kit in the box for $100.00. Too far to drive. He packed it all up (poorly) and gave it to ham fisted postal drivers. Amazingly, the extremely fragile dusting tool box survived being wrapped in a garbage bag. Unfortunately, one 700 has a smashed rear wheel and a big hole in the box where they dropped it a couple times (now I need 3...as the 105 has two broken rear wheels). One of the 700's is missing the bag...and the bracket to connect the bag to the machine.

Would anyone have an idea where I can get a replacement connector (for lack of a better term)? How about a lead on Hoover wheels? 1-3/4" diameter, 1/2" wide, 3/8" hole.

Post some pics of the machines them selves....=)

One owner Hoovers, or vacuum cleaners of that age are a treasure all their own! It also is generally the case because they were cared about, then they are cared for. I found my extremely nice Dirt Finder Hoover 750 on Craigslist, complete with a basically unused tool set, this machine was in such nice, well preserved condition, and I suspect from the story I was told, it was one owner too. Just like your 725, it was only $25.00.

Wow. Nice 750

That headlight assembly is COOL. Polished casting looks great. Do you have any idea how long the cord is supposed to be? None of my cords are original, so I suspect that they'll be various lengths.

To clarify for anyone interested: I need the metal piece that attaches to the bag - the picture I took is from the good 700.

LaGrange is NOT a who! LaGrange is a suburb of Chicago, there was an ad on Craigslist for two Hoover 700's and a box of attachments. One Hoover was missing the bag. Craigslist listed them as being located in LaGrange.

Hehehe. Okay. A place! Yes, that's the one. I look at "chicago" as all encompassing of the dozens of cities that make up suburbs. Apologies to those that would be offended.

THe second 700 is also missing the detachable bottom plate that is normally in place when you are not using the dusting tools. That's not going to be easy to replace.

It's called a pulley cover.

D & D Vacuum in Racine might have one.

Also if you hit flea markets, Seven Mile Flea Market and the Elkhorn Flea Market.
