Home made cyclonic bagged vacuum.

I recently bought a used Fantom Fury and am experamenting with eureka maxims vacuum bags and it seems to work very well. Can anyone tell me if this a good idea or money wasted? Last can anyone tell me if there are any cyclonic baged vacuums out there?

The Fantom Fury is a dual cyclone vacuum, designed by Iona to James Dyson's patents, which Iona licensed from Dyson. The fury uses the same motor as the Electrolux Discovery II upright (except that it's made by Lamb, like the replacement Lux upright motor), so it's not really all that powerful. A paper bag would ruin the efficiency of the machine as soon as you got dirt into it.

I've had a cyclonic bagged vacuum for about seven years now. It's a Bissel Butler cannister vac. It has a smallish cone shaped cyclone on the telescopic extension wand, plus a regular paper bag inside the cannister.

The floor nozzle is rudimentary, no rotating brush roll of any kind. Consequently it's not very good on carpeting, and OK on hard floors. Good for upholstery/drapes/car interiors. But for cars the little cyclone chamber gets in the way. It's removable so there no big problem using the vac without it.

There is an air flow indicator that lets one know when to change the bag. I don't use the vac that much, and have never changed the bag (the airflow indicator is always green).

The dust cup captures mostly larger stuff.

And a HEPA exhaust filter will catch...

...what the cyclone and the bag misses (which can be considerable!)
