Really neat find!!!That RCA tube caddy is KOOL!!!The Variac can also do smoke tests---TWIST TO OBLIVIAN!!!!Many an old crappy speaker and electrolytic cap has gone that way!!!Also good for "Electric Pickle" tests! The parts cases are just like here at work. The similar ones from the closed site were brought to this site.

Good videos have watched those before.Sometimes find really large motorized variacs in some transmitters to vary power output, regulate tube filament voltages,or even power tube screen votages.Cool and useful, simple devices.Out here-have them on our HiPot tester that can go to 75Kv@20Ma used for testing vacuum caps and large power tubes.Cooks the gas out of them,too-they get gassy when not used in a long period of time.In another shop I worked at-did as shown on the video you posted----TWIST TO OBLIVION!!Uusually with speakers and caps-and small motors.Another thrill connect a speaker to the mod transformer secondary on a 5Kw AM transmitter!!!Speaker is very LOUD for a SHORT period of time-2.5 Kw audio surging thru it!Better than the wall!

tolivac, could you recommend a couple of good sites for schematics? I'm looking particularly for a RCA Victor transistor radio, model T-1JE schematic. It would be really great if you knew of some mega compendium site of all radio/antique radio knowledge, but I guess it is what it is...Oh well!

Try Howard W Sams-they print up all kinds of schematic and service info for older equipment.Hope they are still around.I have some of the Sams "Photofacts" schematic for equipment I no longer have! You can try "Googling" them as folks now say. Then there are the other radio forums sites-they may have info, too.

Thanks tolivac!

They didn't have the schematic, but they did have a whole lot of other stuff. So, I replaced its leaky cap and transistors; it seems to be working well, now. Thanks again for the info!

!!!

So totally jealous of your finds!!! Very nice!!! My husband and I just went to a car/swap meet a few weeks back and I got a Tung-Sol radio/TV carry case for $5.00! That was the deal of a century for me! I'm drooling over all of your electronic parts too!!! :) -Michelle

Thanks Michelle! That Tung-sol carrying case was a fantastic price for $5.00! I'm glad you was able to get it. I wish you much more success to come! You can never tell when your driving down the road, you just might see a white linen sheet hanging out that says " Estate Sale! " Many thanks again, Calem!

Calem

Thank you so much for the kind words! That Tung-Sol box was a steal! I know on EBay they go for $100! I just love that I'm actually gonna use it for it's intended purpose! I already have tubes and multimeters in it! I'm just like you, love finding old stuff whether it be in the garbage, antique stores, garage sales, or Estate sales! The best for me is people that I know have something that's cool to me, but they don't want it anymore because it's old and doesn't work! Those are the best! Last weekend my husband and I went into a local antique store that we haven't been into in awhile and I found an early 1970's Zenith table top radio! It was on the bottom shelf where I don't even know how I even saw it! Also, collecting dust, telling me that it had to of been there for awhile! I actually had to move stuff out of the way to even look at it! Of course, I felt sorry for it and for $10.00 I was sold! Brought it home and plugged it in and it did work, but needed to be cleaned on the inside due to the volume being scratchy and the tuning sounded like it was under water! Got to looking at the outside of it and realized that it had a gross filmy grime on its faux wood plastic veneer. I sat with rubbing compound for an hour hand polishing it to at least get it to look acceptable! It still needs a little more hand polishing, but looks a million times better! After a thorough dousing of electrical cleaner, he now proudly sits on my kitchen counter and I use him everyday! I will post him pretty soon so everyone can see him! Hope you have a lot of fun with your new goodies!!! Take care Calem! :) -Michelle

Mega Compendium site of all radio knowledge

Calem, ( Antique radio forums ) has what you seek. Type it in on Google and post a request for your scematic. Some one there will help you. Bill,

Way to go, Michelle! I'm so happy to hear that, I know you'll put it to good use. Also, great find on the Zenith...the vintage ones are really superb! I'm looking forward to seeing your thread! Keep up the good work, and many congratulations on your great finds and restorations! Calem

vacosaurus, thanks for the info, I'll certainly give it go!

Zenith radios such as the one you found were very high quality and had their own great sound. They were built to last!Glad you found and rescued the set-and got it playing!Often those radios were used in kitchens-hence the grunk on the case.
