Hoarder!

I'm trading in my car for a newer one and in process of cleaning it out, I had to clean out the trunk of course.

Inside were several vacuums I had been driving around with for about 5 years.

A lime green Kenmore Power Mate canister NIB that I bought on sale in 2012
An early Hoover Elite II upright
An early Bissell Plus lift off style bagged upright
The canister part to a sky blue Kenmore canister

So I guess you can say I was a vacuum hoarder.

I think a better question might be...

Did you know you had 5 vacuums in the trunk? Maybe you merely wanted to be ready for some major cleaning wherever you were driving.

I drive a 4door pickup with a cap and I would seriously find 5 vacuums in the loadbay a issue even if just using the thing for shopping.

So my question is how big was your car

You could say "You don't have 5 vacuums' in your trunk?! "That's weird everyone has at least 5" "your house must be dirty."

That sounds like a former vacuum salesman with the trade ins still in the trunk after the new vacuums were sold DTD.

Hey Cole,

So far, I've never kept a vacuum in the trunk for more than a day or two.
And that was only because I wanted to wait to bring it into the house "discreetly".
I am an undeniable hoarder in every sense of the word.
But somehow, I've managed to keep it out of the cars. For the most part.
I do have a little yellow plastic snake in the console storage bin of our Explorer.
I'm not sure why.

He he. Well my car wasn't that big, so with those vacuums there wasn't room for much else in the trunk. I did have a box fan in there too but I had taken it out a while ago.

Now my new car, I got a Ford Taurus and its trunk is enormous! Reminds me of the old trunks from the 50s-70s cars. Looks like you could fit a lot of vacuums in there, not that I plan to!

I did buy a new tiny shop vac to keep in my car trunk to clean my car easily. I actually bought it a few months before, so I could be prepared and be more likely to clean it often. Any excuse for another vacuum, I know. LOL

I've kept vacuums in the trunk as well, when I didn't want the neighbors to see me bring them in the house. For some reason I feel odd bringing vacuums or fans in. Not that anyone's watching anyway, but it feels that way sometimes. LOL

Speaking of cars and shop vacs

I was on GM's page recently about some new Chevy Suburbans and GMC Denalis, I've noticed that those can now use the "Onboard Vacuum Cleaning System" from Shop Vac. I was aware that Shop Vac made some for Honda but it looks like some more companies are staring to use these in their bigger vehicles. I guess welcome to the next generation of vacuums.

The above idea was seen on an Olds van 'show car'with Hoover vac built in
of the 90s.
Central vac was an option on GMC motorhomes in the 70s.
Various after market built in vacs were used in 60s & 50s run from battery or engine vacuum lines.
And a 20s Electrolux manual says they a great for cleaning cars."--just set on running board--"

I just sold my late father's Oldsmobile Silhouette (kinda wish I'd kept it, although I do like having the driveway space again) and while it didn't have an onboard vacuum cleaner, I thought the built-in air compressor was a pretty neat trick. I liked the idea of being able to pump up my own flat tire, but thankfully I never had to do it. Oldsmobile was the division where GM tried out a lot of innovations back in the day—including air bags in the mid '70s.

Speaking of mid '70s, our '73 Winnebago Indian did have a built-in vacuum cleaner but for the life of me, I don't remember that we ever used it. We got the thing in 1977 when I was 13 and kept it maybe a year and a half—long enough for two summer trips out west—and somehow I have a vague recollection of vacuuming it out with our little blue Bissell Sweep Master electric broom. Keeping the onboard vac pristine would have been the kind of thing my dad, who was in the car business, would have insisted on to make the Winnie more salable.
