Hi, new here, have a question about my Electrolux

I just bought an old Electrolux, not sure how old it is, could be late 50's or early 60's. I wanted one cause we had one when I was a kid and as teenagers we would dry our hair with the air that came out of the back (we didn't have blow dryers, hard to believe, in 1966, not sure if they weren't common then or Mom was cheap and wouldn't buy one). Anyway, my Mom says that she remembers hearing that you could use it to blow feathers into a pillow ticking to make your own pillows. Is there any truth to that, and if so, how do you do it?

There's a variety of machines it could be from the XXX to the AF or even the G with plenty of different models in between.

If you flip it over and read the name plate it should tell you which model it is. If all else fails, a description of the machine itself could be beneficial.

Regardless of which model it is, it's a Lux! All Luxes rock! They're quiet and pretty powerful. Not to mention long lasting...

i must admit Pat i havent heard of the blowing of the feathers before though i have heard of airating pillows with the hose hooked up to the exhaust but possibly there may have been an attachment to put the feathers into first and then link up to the hose and fire them into the pillowcase there were accessories you could get from electrolux to harness the exhaust power of the cylinder. the sprayer, for 1, the vapouriser/mothemiser there was believe it or not a turbo powered hedge trimmer that fitted on the end of the hose ! though im not sure which end of the machine you plugged into for that. but yes we used z55 as our hairdrier we used to take the bag out and put a hotwater bottle in to make the air hotter it was great on a friday night after a bath!!!

Hi Pat, I don't think that you were ever able to use the Lux for changing pillow feathers but I could be wrong on that. It was always my understanding that this was a job done with an upright machine using the attachments as the feathers had to be able to pass through the machine. Check out thread #6239 in this section "A complete Home Cleaning System" the second picture and you will see what I mean.

Funny you should mention that! Our own Jack (VintageHoover) has posted a thread for Airway that covers just this project (see second or third pic in thread) Who knew?

I finally looked at my Electrolux for the model and it's an Automatic E. Looks like it was probably made in 1954.

I would like to find the crevice tool and a couple other attachments, all I have are the floor attachment and the brush attachment. Anyone know where I can find them other than Craigslist or eBay? Thanks
