Hi Looking to Purchase a New Vac

I'm looking to buy a new Vacuum
right now i have a shark NV 682 that's about 10yrs old
I would like it to be an upright with a turbo brush
we mostly have hardwood & will be vacuuming carpeted steps & hallway & furniture
I would also like all the attachments to store on the Vac unlike the Shark where there is no place to put the turbo brush that's one thing i never liked about it
and also don't want it to be real heavy.
our shark still works but just looking to maybe upgrade i did replace the Beater bar on the shark a few yrs ago all the Bristles were gone on the old one

brands I've been looking at are Hoover,Kenmore,Bissell, but they all seem to look so cheap now like a kids toy
even looked at Miele & Sebo but they seem a little expensive

i'm looking to spend $400 or less

I liked the old Kenmore & Hoovers I still own a Kenmore from 2013 & Hoover from 2010
the Kenmore is an Intuition Bagless 116.31040 mine is beat up because cleaning person drooped it down the steps yrs ago when it was a year old so it doesn't stay all the way up
not sure the model of the Hoover but mine is in nice Condition other then the clip being broken when i got it for the turbo brush so i just put velcro on it.

only problem is that the Hoover & Kenmore are heavy i don't want to carry up & down the stairs

If you are willing to do some work on an older vacuum you could get something like a eureka 4870 or an older wind tunnel. Maybe an older Electrolux. if you get some new parts and bags an older machine will be perked back up. A Bissell, Hoover, shark, etc will not hold anything to something older.

thanks for the reply what model Electrolux are good? i don't know too much about them when i looked it doesn't seem like they make upright vacuums anymore just cordless ones. these new vacuums most of them look terrible I'm not really crazy about any of them only one i liked was a Kenmore elite upright but it weights 20lbs & doesn't have a long hose. the eureka looks nice but since it's old I'll probably have a hard time finding one.

I don't like anything Electrolux makes today, however I can reccomend one of their older uprights from the 80s-90s. I will attach an image. They don't have on-board tools, however they are light, quiet, powerful, reliable, etc. When complete they have a full size hose too. Or you could get an upright for most things and an old Electrolux model g or similar for hard floors and upholstery etc.

Unfortunately, you are looking for something that does not exist that is of good quality. There are no quality uprights that store the turbo tool on board. Given the current state of the vacuum market your best bet would be a canister, but I have two upright suggestions. The Sebo Felix and the Lindhaus Healthcare can be great even if purchased used, but you will have to fit a hard floor tool to both of these to do bare floors well. Possibly, if you have a vacuum you would be willing to trade in, a Sebo dealer may get close to your budget on a Sebo Dart (less features than Felix, same vacuum). Additionally, a used Riccar 8955 would also be great for your use, but you would have to buy the extension hose. The 8955 with the RR badge are newer than the single R badged models. A Simplicity that starts with a 7 is also a good choice.

That Prolux was sold under the Kenmore name years ago, they sold them for about $60 at Kmart! The Kenmore has a very short hose. If you have a vacuum store near you, they might be able to find you something of quality that is in your budget. Vacuum stores usually have some refurbished premium uprights for sale as well.

I would look at something refurbished. If you are open to a cylinder that would work better for you I think. My earlier post is for if you only want an upright. However, an Electrolux cylinder like a g or a Silverado or something like that would work wonders for you. Turbo tools can be purchased aftermarket, power nozzle for the hallway and a good hard floor brush. Just have it serviced/refurbished and shop around.

I would agree on the Electrolux style uprights. Having twin motors, one for suction and one for the brush roll, they can be used as a straight suction machine on hard floors, saving unnecessary wear on the brush roll, as well as agitate carpeted areas. They debuted as the Discovery II back around 1986 and several variants are still in production today by Aerus and other companies. Some have built-in hoses, but as has been noted, few have provisions for onboard tools. I have a Discovery Plus, which is a Discovery II, modified with brackets for onboard tools, but it's very ungainly to use with all that stuff aboard. That said, I would definitely look for a later model that has an electrical connection for a SideKick handheld power brush. It'll outperform any turbo brush out there.

I also think they have really good parts availability ( correct me if I am wrong though). If those are all your needs then that Electrolux discover type machines ticks all the boxes. I would suggest one with the seperate hose and tools though, only if you could put up with that though. That is because the machine is lighter and more nimble without tools. Also you get a longer hose that doesn't try to suck itself in on the stairs. For stairs you just lean it on the bottom few steps and put a non slip sort of thing under each wheel, then when you can't reach further you take the upright the the top and lay it on it's back. Easiest way for any cylinder or upright to vacuum stairs. Also you cannot beat a proper hard floor brush for hard floors, an upright with the brush off can clean hard floors but it's like using a crevice tool to vacuum a couch. If you get one with seperate tools. Even better than an older Electrolux upright would be a cylinder, however you prefer uprights so an Electrolux upright would be my pick. I will add photos and links for some machines I would recommend including some cylinders. Cylinders generally are lighter, easier to use and all the rest of it. Some don't like them though. Go to your local vacuum store and try out a cylinder from sebo, probably the k3, and see if it feels natural or weird. If it feels natural go for a cylinder but if it feels too weird get the upright. It is a bit of a change going from one to the other so do expect that it will feel a little weird at first. Sebo dealers may be able to sell you a refurbished Felix for about $400-500

Other options I would suggest in order from best to worst ( all of them are good though).

Hoover dial a matic powerdrive. These machines are built like a tank but don't have tools onboard. They are a good fit for all your needs except the tools on-board. I will link one that has a massive pile of bags and all the tools for $215 usd which when given a service and paid for shipping it adds up to about $400. A lot of the advantages of the Electrolux machines roll over to here. I would say that unless there is a particularly good dial a matic top go for the Electrolux.

Fairfax fax-o-matic. These are literally the most simple machines I can think of. Very cheap and easy to run, lots and lots of power ( they have a central vacuum motor in them) and they are quite lightweight. Good pick

An Electrolux cylinder has basically the same advantages as their upright just in the cylinder from factor.
