My two cents:

IMHO, those Hoover Estate/Decades are the best uprights Hoover ever manufactured. That blue Convertible Estate beauty at the top is the first one we ever owned(purchased in 1977)and it's still going strong. I bought two more on ebay just to make sure I'll always own at least one. Even the freaking beater/brush bar is made out of metal and comes apart for cleaning/painting and reinstallation of new brushes! What great machines! Why did Hoover ever stop making them??

Brett,

I totally agree with you there. Back in the early 90s, my grandmother gave me a Singer/Kenmore from the mid 80s with headlight, 2 speeds, and I remember it was sticking to the floor from the suction to the point you could barely push it. Even on low speed. My dad went to run it one day and he said that, and ended up getting our Convertible out and using that instead, hehe.
