Here's a very nice Hoover page that I have never seen before.

Wow!

That IS a great link. What great research, Si. I'm impressed. I learned a lot from your narrative. I've also learned a lot from our other British friends. Thanks, all.

Thanks guys

It's nice to hear some kind words. I'm at a bit of a low ebb at the moment as my grandma passed away on sunday after a long illness, so i'm not at my best right now.

Si

Si, I'm sorry

I'm sorry about your grandmother. I remember what that was like. Those of us lucky enough to have had one or more grandmothers around during our life know how special they can be. Here's to your Grandma.

Same here - very, very sorry to hear of your loss, Si. My granny has always been a second mother to me, and I've always been a favourite grandchild to her (unofficially of course!). I couldn't imagine losing someone so important in my life.

Thanks guys,

Jack, that was how my grunnie was to me, especially when I was a kid. In fact I used to cry when my mum came to take me home, not the other way around!

She was very ill though. Alzheimer's for the last ten years or so, followed by diabetes and they discovered a large cancerous tumour on her lung two months ago. Ironically, by that time the alzheimers was so bad that she'd forgotten she smoked.

All very sad, but life goes on. I've kept myself busy, and have done my first Hoover vacuum epic for youtube! I'm sure my grunnie would have been impressed that I'd put "yon auld Hoovers ontae the computer!" In fact, I'll be looking for voluntary work at the electrical section of one of the big local museums once I get back from her funeral - make the auld wifie proud!

That's a wonderful video, Si, really brilliant! Almost like a clip from a full-length documentary! I couldn't bear to speak on my videos, I HATE hearing or seeing myself on tape!
I too have been busy working on my website - no new videos as yet, but I've added new pictures and info to many of the pages, and created a new one -'Documenting the Obsession', which you may find amusing, seeing as many of us on here have similar childhood stories about vacuum cleaners!
I am planning to do some more videos soon as well, of the cleaners I didn't get done in the first session, and also a couple showing how the uprights work with their tools. Just need a free afternoon when the house is quiet and the living room's empty!

With sympathy,

So sorry to hear about your Grandmother, Si. I was close to my grandma, too, as she moved in with us about 6 months before my Father passed away, and helped raise me when my Mom had to go back to work. Fortunately, she lived long enough to be part of my kids' early childhoods and reach her 100th birthday.
May God grant you comfort & strength at this time.
Jeff
