City workers are pruning King Palm trees along our neighborhood streets. I got vertigo just watching them!

Some of the trees are over one hundred feet tall. With the tallest ones, the crane bucket can't reach the top -- the trimmers have to climb the rest of the way up with hand-held grappling hooks and spiked shoes. They have a safety rope around their waists.

Even scarier: It's still a bit windy today and the trees are swaying in the wind.

You couldn't pay me enough.......

I absolutely adore the palm trees in Los Angeles. They really add to the mystique of the area. I remember an interview with Tina Turner as she described coming to LA for the first time, she was struck by the "pink houses and palm trees". It's very interesting to see just how much work goes into keeping them so gorgeous.

I used to live in the LA area in the early 60's-remembered those tall palm trees in California. In the mid 60's we moved to Tampa-St Pete Florida-My Dad changing jobs at the time. The palm trees in Florida were similar but not as tall as those in California. The city in Florida trimmed the trees in front of our Florida house.A few years ago flew to LA to visit my Mom and sister,Spotted the tall palms from the plane as it landed.

I wasn't going to state the obvious! hahaha

The one on the ground holding the palm branches in one of the photos had a verrrry nice dimpled smile....... "Myrtle Mae, the smelling salts! Quickly!! I feel a palpitation coming on!!!"

We have several palm trees in our yard. I'm the lucky one who gets to trim them, since my husband isn't supposed to be climbing ladders with his bad back. The ones in the front yard aren't so bad. The one in the back yard is a good 20 foot tall. It's getting to the point, where I will have to start hiring a professional to come in and trim it. I'm not a big fan of heights as it is.

With the proper safety gear I'd give it a shot. I tuckpoint chimneys for a living and I'm on ladders, roofs, and scaffolding all the time. You just have to be aware of your surroundings and where your at and have a plan B in the back of your mind. I just climbed a fir tree probably 30 feet up free climbing because my parrot escaped too. Almost had him, even touched his head but he startled and flew away:(
Bet they get great pay too and nobody messes with you when your up high.
