Right on cue...
I had just bought every wear-prone part for my Whirlpool 90 series direct drive washer and 80 series dryer so I can keep them running the rest of my life. What I did not buy I can patch since I am an engineer.
Sure, these all-OEM parts cost almost as much as I had paid for the set back in '95, but sure beats having to buy some gooberment-regulated obsolete-O-matic set for 2-3x the price that takes 3x the time to clean poorly and ruin fine clothes in the process.

I have one of the very last Speed Queen sets without the electronics, made in October of 2017. First thing I made it work with the lid open. Next, I adjusted the water level to come to the top of the agitator vanes. The very best washers.

I will just keep fixing up my Kenmore 90 Series for as long as I possibly can. Or if I did had to buy a brand new top load washer right now, I'd get a Speed Queen TC5 which I might possibly do now since Whirlpool just recently stopped making parts for my Kenmore. That I think is the VERY last good top load washer on the market currently so if you're looking for a new top load washer, get a TC5 while you can. Whirlpool just released a brand new Maytag Commercial top load washer with the four water level switches that their predecessor model didn't offer before but it still doesn't use the old school direct drive system that my Kenmore has and it still tempers the hot water which my Kenmore doesn't do. That would be my second choice to get if I had to buy a brand new top load washer right now.

The Kenmore 90 series is pretty much the same as the Whirlpool I have - parts are still a plenty and inexpensive. I should know since I practically bought a new drivetrain.
They will be out there for quite a while still.
The only part I could not find new was a timer. However, since it is mechanical, I can patch it if needed. If I have to use a bunch of toggle switches and pushbuttons, so be it.

And I agree - those are extremely good machines. Keep it as long as you can repair it. My washer is 27 years old and the neutral pack is just starting to get flaky. I have the parts to fix, just need the time. Oh, the $5 agitator dogs were replaced a few years back - a 10 minute fix.

What really kills these is when people use the bleach dispenser a lot and spill bleach. It runs inside and rusts out a couple main frame rails which is very costly to repair. My sis did that - they quoted 1k to fix.

old Maytag's

I have these old MAYTAG'S I think from the 80's I'm not sure. They were in the house when I bought it. I love the fact that they are heavy duty, and the washer is also a "extra capacity" machine. These are a pair of real work horses that I hope I can keep going for years to come.

My dryer is gas, though.


 They were dated 1992


 Both have had minimal repairs.  LOVE them!!!!

It's rediculous

As if the newer models weren't stingy enough with water already.I do my laundry at my friends house when I house sit for him. He has a new set of Samsung washer/dryer. No dials or switches. I use the towels setting as that cycle puts the most water in for the wash and set the soil level to max which ads more. It still isn't enough! This is a front loader. You can here the clothes flopping around in the drum barely wet.

You know there's a problem when you can set it for up to 5 rinses. I end up bringing a bucket of water (3 gal.) over to pause the wash cycle and ad to the load. Crazy! I can't imagine reducing water any further in the new machines. If you use all 5 rinse cycles on a load of clothes, how is that saving water and electricity.

Just heard today that by 2027 all newly constructed homes will be required to use electric hot water tanks only and replacements for existing gas heaters have to be switched over. This isn't a done deal yet, but they're going to try to get it on the table. Where is all this electricity going to come from?

The coal-fired power plants of course, silly. Crank those suckers up, and let's increase global warming so that you can charge your 500 amp electric car plug times 10 billion people so you can save the planet from global warming. (this is sarcasm)

Don't forget to clean your dryer vent

Just recently I got our dryer vent cleaned out, and as it turned out it was much needed. My house was built in 1959 and I don't know if the dryer vent had ever been cleaned. We have lived here for almost 9 years now, so it was well overdue.

We were very much surprised to see all the lint clogging up our dryer vent. This is how many homes catch fire every year. Also, by keeping your vent clean your dryer will run more efficiently and yes use less energy, and also last longer. It's also a good idea to keep lint and old dryer sheets cleaned out from under your dryer as well.

Pictured is what was cleaned out of our dryer vent....WOW!
