HEPA for a 5033 bag machine? and 17816 filter

I have a pretty old vacuum (Sears 2395 canister) and it uses 5033 bags. It i still my only regular floor vac and I want to get the exhaust air cleaned better. Right now I have some bags in there that do not really fit and are rather smaller than the space inside the machine.

I have not found a real HEPA bag for it. I noted on this site someone using a type O HEPA "bag" with a 5033 bag.

I would like to know what the best solution is for this problem. I have no reason to stop using this vacuum; it works just fine. The only issue is the connection between the hose and the powered head.

My thoughts would be a better 5033 if I can't get a HEPA version. I have seen some with claim improved filtering but not HEPA levels. Together with the HEPA bag noted above.

If this is the way to proceed (or if you have a better idea), a brand/type recommendation for the filters would be appreciated.

I also need a HEPA filter to replace a sears 17816 in a shop vac. I have seen one made of Goretex that is washable. I would like a recommendation for a brand/type for this as well as a recommendation of putting a gross chunk filter over the base filter.

I ordered CleanStream Gortex filters for the shop vac. I may want a bag over the filter to protect the surface from sharp things.

I would still like to find a solution for my trusty old Sears canister.

I scoured the internet 5033 HEPA compatibles, but it seems they don't exist. All I could find were the standard single-wall bags, which are pitiful. You could try hot-glueing a 5033 bag collar to a similar sized HEPA bag. The Hoover S bags might be of similar size, but I can't say for sure. You could also place HEPA-like material before or after the motor to help filter the air. Miele Air Clean filters would work great for this purpose.


 


I hope you can find a solution. Continue to enjoy your Kenmore in the meantime.

I hear your frustration on trying to find a better bag for your Kenmore which uses the 5033 bags. I have one of those machines too which use this bag, & they do leak a LOT of dust! A couple of options....

1. Arm & Hammer do make a Micro Filtration 5033 bag, sold in WalMart for just under $6 for 3 bags. If you didn't need quite HEPA level filtration, that would work.

2. HEPA bags for the Henry canister vacuums. I have looked into this myself, & am going to try it. the bag mounts in front, same as a Kenmore bag does, & the hole looks to be the same size. All you might have to do to make it fit snug (and therefore not leak) is to wrap the orange bag connector with a bit of clear parceling tape, to increase the diameter slightly so it fits more snug on the bag. A local parts distributor for vac shops has these bags listed 10 for $27.99....so certainly a very reasonable price to pay for HEPA bags.

For a pre-motor filter, order a TriStar CXL motor filter dome....they fit & work just as well. A word of caution though, get the one with foam, DO NOT use the HEPA motor dome, those ones are too tall & won't allow the bag door to close.

Give those suggestions a try, & hope I have been of some help.
