Henry HVR200A stops starts

Hi
I have a Henry HVR200A which Starts and stops randomly. Sometimes it will start and run for 20 mins other times it will only run for a few seconds. If you leave it switched on it will suddenly burst into life and then die again. Having checked internet sites I have replaced the mains cable and the spring contacts but to no avail.

Anyone got any ideas please?

I would check to make sure the carbon brushes are properly seated and moving freely. If that's the case I would then just change the switch and maybe the electronics next to the switch.

I was just wondering if it cuts out like this whether the motor was cold or hot. There should be a thermal cutoff that might be defective. Also check your cord, from one end to the other slightly bend it back and forth with the motor running to see if it cuts out.You could use an amp/volt tester on the cord too.

Sounds like a broken wire or loose connection to me. I bet if it stops, and you smack it, it will start again. If you've already replaced the mains cord, likely the problem is in the wiring inside the unit. Check all connections for looseness and corrosion.

Unlikely that it's a switch. They usually fail in such a way that they either make contact or don't, not an intermittent connection when switched on. Usually.

Also when you are checking the wires, it's good practice to tug on them to test tightness. Open it up, plug it in and turn it on. Wiggle wires here and there and see which wire causes it to turn on or off (it's legit called the 'wiggle test').
